hey,
I need some help regarding the online application. Here's the lowdown: I complete the application. Submit my generous payment of 50 bucks and then outta nowhere, this page pops up. It require me to sign it and send it along with my Certification of Finance. Ok thats sounds fair. And the there's another page that says "Please submit these two pages to your high school counselor at this point. Your application cannot be considered complete without this information." OK, the problem with this is that school's out and my counselor is on a vacation. How the hell am I supposed to get his signature on that piece of paper before the 31st if he isnt here. They didnt even specify anything about that in the application instructions. I've already paid for the damn thing. Damn it! what should i do? any advice? i've already written to admissions office and i'm waiting for their reply.

That's horrible! I would advise, however, that you call and don't write (it could take forever otherwise). Once you have them on the phone don't hang up until they give you a satisfactory answer/solution to your problem

Don't stress too much- you can't be the first to be in this situation

sorry but can't help you there. i'd just keep contacting the admissions office and discussing it with them- i'm sure they'll offer a solution. BUT i do have a question... what exactly is the financial certification? is that just what your counselor signs and you check off whether you're paying online/via snail mail?

the financial certification is a form you fill out along with a bank statement with a bank official's signature to prove that you can afford goin to UIUC.

Internationals have to fill out a financial form that certifies they can pay for the college costs as a condition to admission. UIUC does not provide any need based aid to internationals and does not offer admission to internationals unless they can cover the costs. The form is inapplicable to US citizens or permanent residents.

Yes, you were supposed to get that counselor's form filled out and sent with your transcript by the application deadline. However, if you do get someone in admissions they are usually kind in granting extra time.

well, i had to ask Citibank's relationship manager to type up a small letter affirming that my dad could afford to pay for my education in the states.

AH this is so confusing. on the app requirements it says you need to fill out a financial certification IF you're on a F-1 or J-1 visa or if you're planning on obtaining one for studying in the U.S. I'm neither of those, so i guess i need to make a phone call after break... on the app status financial certification needs to be received still but on the note it states my visa status (which isn't F or J).

interestingly, the paper application does not require anything to be signed by the counselor. but Damn it! i already paid for the online application.

yea true...but didnt see that coming on the online app. so i didnt bother to ask my counselor and now my counselor is somewhere in singapore for visa reasons...anyways, my high school transcript is signed and sealed by a school official and it contains my g.p.a...etc..so i wrote to the uni. sayin that i couldnt get the form signed since my counselor is out of the country. hope they dont mind...

I have to admit we ran into the same 'surprise' when my S submitted his application for 'priority'. We had gone online and didn't see anything specific that the High School / Guidance Counselor needed to fill out. So he had requested the school to send a standard transcript. When he hit submit on 11/14 and I paid the $50, then the form popped up for the GC signature. Quite a surprise. I used it as a lesson in 'why not to wait until the last minute'. But the GC signed it and a week later he was admitted.

It seems that somewhere UIUC should forewarn applicants that this is a process where the student has to submit the application and then get the paperwork routed through school. This is the only school where we have encountered such a process and it sure surprised us.

Or maybe it's someone's idea of teaching applicants to allow enough 'cushion time' in administrative processes???

thats exactly what my dad told me. Do not wait till the last minute. So I guess I learned my lesson, eh. I hope they accept my application w/o the GC's signature.

i think i'm in the same boat as you. i'm a US citiz staying (& educated) in Bangladesh. gonna apply to UIUC today but, same as you, my school is closed (going to open on Jan16) & I cant reach my counselor. so i cant possibly get my class rank&gpa with counselor signature within jan1.
what did you gather about this from ur correspondence wit them?
are you send high school transcripts and certificates without the counselor signature page?

btw. I've got photocopies of my common app which states my class rank & has the counselor's signature along with the school's seal. Will sending this (ie the part with the rank & signature) be of any help? More importantly will they accept it? After all it has all the required info.

i wrote to the UG office at UIUC, but no one seems to be replying. I tried calling but they redirected me to the police for some reason and I found out that the Univerisity was on break. So I just sent my application online and my transcript and COF via DHL. I didnt get the form signed, however, I did attach a letter stating why I couldnt get the formed signed. My transcript however, is sealed and signed. It has all the info regarding class rank, GPA, etc. So I dont think it should be too much of a problem.
