Hey guys! I'll be entering my freshman year at West Virginia University this fall, and was wondering if I can have some input on what I can possibly major in. What I truly want to do with my life is travel the world, explore and learn about different cultures, and learn about past civilizations. History would be the broad choice, but I sincerely doubt I'd get a job with the description above. I've also been looking at International Studies and double majoring in Sociology and Anthropology. Any input would be appreciated! Thanks!

Why not take one class from each of those subjects? Personally I’m a geography major and it seems to cover what you are interested in as well. However, it’s up to you to decide where your interests lie.

Try taking a variety of classes. Your going to be a freshman, so don’t stress about it. You have plenty of time to make up your mind. It took me four years at a community college to figure it out, but some people know right off the bat. Lol.

Take the time to figure out what you enjoy. Don’t rush it. If you do, you might end up with something you hate or don’t care about.

Hope that helped!

Thanks! I’ll surely look into geography as well. Appreciate it!

With your mentioned interests, you could think about majors such as History, International Relations/Studies, a language, Sociology, Anthropology, or any other ‘cultural’ major (some schools offer majors such as “European Studies,” “African Studies,” etc.).

Thanks so much. My only concern is employment options. I really don’t want a major that will do nothing for me.
