I will be entering UofM as a Transfer in Jan...Since the school could care less about transfer students, I have to find an off campus place not too far from the school. With that being said, do you think it's going to be a challenge going back and forth to campus 7 days a week to eat!? Don't you think that's a bit hectic? I CAN'T COOK. I have no idea where to even begin, nor do I want to attempt. I refuse to cook. I know most people purchase a meal plan that lives in the dorms, but since I'm not living in the dorms, they still have off campus meal plans...but wondering if commuting back & forth is worth it? Do most people who aren't cookers, usually do that day & night?

So what do your recommend? Do most people commute easily to go and eat on campus?
I don't want to be starving :( I'm already sad that I won't be able to stay in a dorm...

THHHHHHHAAAAANNNNKKKKK YOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUU SO MUCH! :D :D :D :D :D

There are tons of restaurants on and around campus. My S commutes for PSEO and he has never had a problem finding something to eat. You might want to rethink refusing to cook. It would save you a lot of money–even compared with a meal plan.

Going to a restaurant more than once a week?? Not happening if you’re poor! Meal plan seems more promising!

Sorry. I didn’t read carefully. I suppose it depends how far away you live. Don’t they have a 10 meal per week plan? Maybe you could do that during the week, and heat something up at home on the weekends. I actually need to check into this for my S for next year.

I would avoid the residential meal plans if you don’t anticipate eating on campus every day. The option my friends and I use (we live in off campus houses - Dinkytown) is Flexdine. You can add cash increments as you wish instead of paying a giant lump sum like $1700 for the semester, so you don’t feel obligated to always eat on campus, which you don’t want to do. You know who cooks on campus meals? Freshman who take work-study jobs.

Also, learn to cook, if you don’t do it now I am not sure if you can stay on student meal plan when you graduate lols.

Okay. Well, I am really stressing about this. I have less than 1 month to get this situated. What am I supposed to do?! There’s no way that I’d be able to learn how to cook in less than 1 month with everything that’s going on in my life. What do you recommend? And I would hate to not attend a school because I can’t eat. lol

Learning to cook the absolute basics is not difficult. It’s mostly just following instructions. Really difficult to mess up “Boil this for x minutes” or “Put this in a 400 degree oven.”

The dining hall food is bad, honestly. It’s a necessary evil if you live in the dorms, but buying a meal plan while living off-campus is insane.

Cooking isn’t hard, just follow basic instructions. There’s always ramen.
