Hi, so I’m a soon-to-be freshman at CAS, and hoping to become an english major. About a week ago, we received emails from our counselors, informing us about class enrollment and such. I was excited and set up a great schedule and received permission to enroll, only to be told that Bursar had a certain amount I hadn’t paid off from an old summer program, and had a hold on my account. This prevented me from enrolling in any classes at all.
It was two dollars that my mom forgot to pay as she wasn’t aware of extra financial charges. Thus, it took about three days to resolve and for Bursar to lift the hold. By the time the hold was lifted, two of the classes I wanted to enroll in had been filled completely.
Now, due to my seminar time, I cannot take the freshman requirement of Expository Writing first semester (the only section open out of about 80 sections, which are all CLOSED, happens to coincide with my only evening class), which is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to be taken first semester in order to take any English classes in the second one. I’m extremely nervous that I will be put behind a semester due to me not being able to take the class. Instead, my counselor is telling me to simply take a core writing class and take the expository course next semester…I really would rather not do that as I want to get a head start…
Is there any way that in the first week of classes I could appeal to the professor or the office for an extra spot in a course? Or perhaps someone will drop/switch out in the first week? Please help…am I stuck taking something I don’t even want to for this semester, permanently?
