Help with selecting classes??

So today is the first day that the school is open for incoming undergrads to register for classes. But the professors aren't listed yet for each class (which i thought was odd b/c the professor is a big deal).

I plan to major in economics, not sure if I should go with BS or BA...Suggestions???

So far I've chosen the required courses (CAS 101 and CAS 100: consuming culture over WRT 105), Calculus I and ECN 203.

Does anyone have experience with the writing courses CAS 100: consuming culture or WRT 105? I have to pick one and I'm thinking CAS 100 but open to suggestions

And is the Calc class very challenging to take as a first semester class? (i took precalc in hs)
I'm thinking of choosing one more class but don't know what to pick. ??

Any help is appreciated!!!

did they change procedure? it was not possible to do this online in previous years…

If you go on myslice, and you go to course search, you can find professors…but I didn’t think freshman could pick their sections/times…

If you can’t find the course search PM me…I’ll try to guide you through

yea all incoming first year students have to do this (pick their first semester classes online)…but we dont get to pick the times we just submit the classes we want to take
and the professors for fall 2011 aren’t available on the course search on the website

I will go over the procedure to see professors and PM you…

First of all, welcome to SU!

Calc honestly depends on the professor. I’ve had friends who have taken Calc I/Calc II with great professors and have aced the class, and others with awful professors who did poorly. Of course, it also depends on your ability to understand and digest the material being taught, as well as whether or not you can teach yourself when you need to.

You are correct in that as a freshman, you get to choose neither the professor nor the class times. However, if your class is a singleton and you can’t find the professor name, you’ll have better luck looking at the PDF located here: [SU - Registrar - General Info - Schedule of Classes](Schedule of Classes - Office of the Registrar – Syracuse University)

Additionally, once you’re on campus, you’re allowed to change and modify your schedule as you please. (In other words, you can add and drop classes to finangle your way into classes you want with times/professors you’d like to have.)

thanks awesome guy! what teachers are good? bad? if u know that wld b helpful

you can find student reviews of most profs here:
[Syracuse University - New York](http://www.ratemyprofessors.com/SelectTeacher.jsp?sid=992)

I’ll be honest, I’d prefer to not name specific professors. However, the link that viciousdirt has posted is generally a good source. Sometimes it’s incredibly wrong, but it’s usually pretty accurate.

Additionally, it’s not a complete listing of the professors SU has. Word of mouth seems to be better than the list. (You also get the additional benefit of seeing the student’s background, allowing you to determine whether a “difficult class” is truly difficult or not. “Real life” responses are typically more verbose than those you’ll find online with regard to prof ratings.)
