Help with stubborn kid and essays

This sounds like my daughter as well - but for the most part, we worked quite well together during the editing process. For us, the key was for her to do the first draft completely on her own. She would submit that to her school counselor (he is also an English teacher) for review, then she and I would go over his notes and make edits. His positive feedback was pretty instrumental in how she perceived her writing which allowed me some space to make a few critiques and edits. Allowing me to help with small edits instead of moving whole paragraphs, etc was very helpful. I honestly think that her essay’s were very critical in the acceptance process as she has a few B’s on her transcript and a low math section on the ACT. We were also very concerned about getting good financial aid so we felt the stakes were pretty high. I’m sure my daughter would say that I was pushy and demanding about the essay’s being good, but I think she would also say that she is very pleased with where she got acceptances
