My friend received a D in a class that she does not need for the IGETC or her major now (because she changed he major). even with the D, she still has over a 2.6 which is obviously higher than the 2.0 required gpa for the transfer to UCSB.

Please dont tell me to tell her to contact admissions, she already has. She is in Korea right now to visit her family and her English isn't the best to begin with, even though she went to a California CC.

What do you guys think? Will she get rescinded?

Contact UCSB asap!

Does her “Conditions of Admission” contract specify that she can’t have a grade lower than C or that she can’t go below a 2.0 GPA for the quarter?

Only about 287654356 people have asked this same question already.

@ deanzatransfer
She has, I even helped her write the e-mail.
The conditions say both of those, but we also found this

[University of California - Transfer GPA](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/transfer/requirements/transfer-gpa/index.html)

@killmyentourage hey i don’t recall asking for that information, unless you are going to post a link, you can eff off now. People like you make me wonder why do you even waste the time posting…

Oh I guess my bluntness was overlooked… I’ll spell it out for you since you (and your friend) are incapable of understanding how to utilize College Confidential tools.

On the UC Transfers page, there is this little blue box with the words “Search this Forum”. When you click on it, you can then type in a word or phrase that is indicative of the question you might have. Just for the hell of it, try typing in “rescind” and 752 pages of threads that include this word will come up. A good percentage of these posts will be from people just like your friend who are concerned with their admission. Those can give you a ton of insight on the situation from others who have had similar circumstances.

Perhaps you haven’t come across my 500+ other posts, most of which are to help people who have ACTUAL questions rather than responding to those who arbitrarily poll other users to see if their friend screwed up their chances of transferring instead of looking at the abundance of past posts consisting of the same concerns. Good luck *bag.

Dude I’m not in the mood for your bull. I’m really not in the mood. Stop talking down to me

If you would like to stalk my computer history, I have already used the “search” feature, and no one ever says if they actually got rescinded or not. Also, the past does not dictate what the schools may now be doing. If you are so smart, then please find me the post of a transfer student from a different country who received a D in a class not for the IGETC or her major and ONLY for UCSB. No sarcasm, I would just really like to see it.

If you can’t then just please go away. Like you don’t have to reply to my post. I have friends that go to Berkeley, but elitists like you are the reason i turned them down.
If you aren’t going to help, please just go far away.

@killmy - aahh but instead of being a sarcastic bz, (which you called bluntness), you could have used 4 words that not only would have helped the OP quicker, but would have made you seem much more nicer. “use the search function”

i cant wait to also have more time than i know what to do with when my summer FINALLY starts

@redoplease
thank you, you are the type of berkeley person i love to believe is still out there…the educated, considerate kind.

do you have any say on her admissions?

You’ve basically taken the only opinion anyone here can give you out of the equation. The only person that can tell her what’s up is her admissions officer. She should’ve given her an email as well as a phone number to contact her. It may take a few days for a response but that’s her best route. Admissions usually try to work something out with the student.

I have no idea how your friend’s academic record is but I have seen a ton of rescinded threads on these forums. What I find weird is how these straight A students come in panicking about a failing grade in their last semester. I can understand that things may occur that can impact one’s studies but a failing grade for these geniuses are usually a sign of longterm problems as opposed to short term and as such, they should’ve had plenty of time do something about it.

@OP You know who dictates admissions decisions? The admissions office. While I’m sure you already know this… you specifically asked “what do you guys think?” and no matter how condescendingly I responded, it was a suggestion to look at previous posts. No sarcasm, that’s just how it is. Regardless, despite the fact that you’ve already told me to eff off and unjustifiably called me an elitist, I prefer to respond since this is an open thread.

@redo With all due respect, you don’t always have the utmost benevolent composure lol so I don’t really understand why you personally are calling me out for not being nice.

Edit: But thank you for mentioning that I am educated lol.

hahahahaha i still think killmy is quite “educated.” this is the first time i’ve been on here for like a week, and i forgot how mean it could get around here sometimes :P

but no, sorry, i dont know much about rescind issues best thing for your friend to do is hold out for that reply from UCSB

edit: atleast i tryyy to be nice but when people insist on crying about the same damn issue…it gets a little toxic. also composure =/= nice! so girl, i dunno watchu talkin bout

She had a 3.8 and she is a very smart girl, I have had three classes with her so I do not know what happened. She hasn’t even told her family in Korea about it, she is just trying to fix it before she comes back at the end of summer.

I mean technically an F isn’t failing since you still get 1.0 credit in the gpa

@redoplease, i have been on here awhile, so i know.
i just want someone with experience or a friend who has experience to respond. i’m not too interested in invalid opinions.
and I have gone through ALL of the rescind threads…people never go back to update their situations which is all i care about…the final result.
screw me for trying to help a girl whose english is rough.

There have been so many people in this situation every semester…what the h was the final verdict!

dont forget to come back here and update this thread for others about your friends situation!

“I mean technically an F isn’t failing since you still get 1.0 credit in the gpa”

An F is a failing grade and you get 0.0 credits towards your GPA for an F. A D is technically a passing grade which you do receive 1.0 credits for towards your GPA but it generally does not count for meeting course requirements in your major or as a prerequisite for courses. From your first and latest posts it is unclear whether your girlfriend received a D or an F in a course. In either case she did not meet the terms of her admission contract which specified no grades lower than C. That is grounds for rescinding her but not neccesarilly a requirement that she be rescinded, that is something Admissions has to decide after looking at the circumstances.

It may not be a good idea for her to stay in Korea until the end of the summer and let you handle it for her. She should really consider coming back to the U.S. now to deal with it as best she can herself. Her English may be poor but she is the one that has to make her case, preferebly in person, to UCSB Admissions as to why she should not be rescinced. Her English may not be perfect but it is hard to see how she could have achieved a 3.8 GPA at a CCC if she did not have some facility in the language. It is also hard to figure how a 3.8 student suddenly gets a D or F in a class during her last semester. She had better be prepared with a good explanation as to what happened and why it will not happen again if she is permitted to enroll at UCSB.

And the judgmental squad is out again . Look, it might of just been a very hard course , or the final may of caught the girl off guard .
Whatever, you shouldn’t judge people you don’t know . Most of this stuff can be settled over the phone, after all you can order your transcripts online and when admissions sees them they’ll decide if they want to rescind her or not .

IMO if shes not going for a competitive major she probably has nothing to worry about .

@ Lemaitre
I meant a D* clearly for the 1.0 credit, i dont think you get any for an F.
anyways, she has no F’s, just this D, and I know she should come back to figure this out but those tickets are expensive.
Thank you, I’ll try to stress the importance of her dealing with this now. I have only known her for two semesters but i think she just had a bad case of transferitis

@thisislife
Thank you btw, this girl is extremely sweet and I’m glad she doesn’t have to read some of this BS that people write

geez louise untwist your panties already

Haha, seriously. You ask our opinions and then throw them back in our face if you don’t like them. Welcome to the real world :)
