Help...

So I took SAT classes earlier this year and brought my sat score up to the 2100s but my goal is to get a 2250+. I also just took the act yesterday to see if I could get atleast a 32 on it. I want to get into a good college and apply early action so I need to finish SAT's by November( meaning the last SAT I can take is in November). If I do ok on the act should I just study over the summer and take the september one and not bother with the sat reasoning? I also need to take a chem sat subject test! And the thing about sat reasoning is that the vocab in the critical reading always kills me and that's why I prefer the ACT. So I don't know which one to take... Any help would be great :) Thanks!

What were your subscores ?

If writing is a strength you may want to focus on the ACT. Some schools throw out the writing score on SAT. Certianly if you think you can score 32 or better that’s an improvement on what you have now.

Also at this point you should know what schools you are looking at…then lookup their score means in the CDS to see if you are on track.

Why do you need the chem sat ?

Writing is my strength! That’s my highest section on the sat! And I have looked at the schools’ subscores and I haven’t reached their subscores for critical reading. So that’s why I’m wondering if I should just focus on improving CR and memorize vocab over the summer and retake it or focus on the ACT… I need to take Chem because I want to major in chemical engineering and it’s recommended to take the Chem and Math L2 SAT. I already took them in June but I don’t feel comfortable with how I did on my Chem SAT so I will most likely have to retake that one. What is CDS? Thanks for your input!

If you are really good at writing, the SAT caters more to that. For the ACT, writing is largely irrelevant, and doesn’t factor into your composite score. There is a separate English/Writing score for the ACT, but that doesn’t mean much. While SAT writing can bolster your overall score, ACT writing cannot.

Hershey,

Most good colleges aka ivy league and some west coast schools don’t even bother looking at ACT. SAT is what mainly matters in a lot of good colleges. You might want to put that into consideration.

And we can’t really give a comparison until you get your ACT Score. I say if you get like a 33-36, you’re set for a good college.

Not correct. You don’t even have to submit SAT scores to be admitted to an ivy league school. They take either test. Schools equate test scores based on percentile rank, so hershey12’s current SAT test scores are at the 98%tile rank, equivalent to an ACT of 31.
