HELP!

Hey guys,

So, I've been having a bit of trouble with my schedule; whether or not I should or should not drop some classes. Here's some background. So last year, I took Spanish 3, and I was hoping to finish up spanish by taking 4 this [junior] year. However, Spanish conflicted with one of my AP Physics periods; I would have to drop Physics C E/M for it. I decided not to take Spanish 4 and take AP Physics E/M. However, now that scheduling changes are occurring across school, I'm not so sure whether I made the right decision. My thought process is that if I drop Physics C E/M, I can finish up Spanish 4 and not awkwardly stop at Spanish 3[and make my college app look good by showing I finished all 4 years of the language] , and that if I decide to take Physics senior year, I'll be more prepared for it [I'd have been taking MV Calc senior year with AP Physics C if I take this route. Right now, I'll have only finished Calculus AB before I start E/M].

On the other hand, I'm a great math student [got to state level Mathcounts, solid understanding of concepts, and I have problem solving skills], so I feel like that could shift to physics as well and I could handle the class. Then again, I heard Physics C E/M mindpoopingly hard. Also, If I take Mech E/M senior year, that could clog my schedule up.

Here's the classes I'm taking now.

AP Calc AB/BC [our school requires that you take AB before BC]
AP Physics C: Mech/E&M [I know a good chunk of calculus already, so I hope I can do well]
AP EnviSci
English 11
Programming and Computer Concepts[prereq AP comp sci]
Microsoft Business Certification[required financial lit credit]

Senior Year, I plan to take:

AP Lang/Comp
AP Chem
Calc III
AP Computer Science
AP Psych/Philosophy/National and Global Issues [easy class]
...and in progress. If I take AP Fizz E/M in this year, and I get unlucky and have to take Lang+Chem at the same time,I'm asking for the academic guillotine. But will it be worth it because I'll be taking Calc III at the same time? Or should I stop being a pansy and finish it as a junior?

TLDR; Is it worth dropping AP Physics C: E/M for Spanish 4?

Thanks!

EDIT: I have no Idea why the second paragraph and onward are italicized. I don't know how to fix it either.

If a school does not require 4 years of foreign language for admission (only about ten or so do), then three years is perfect. No school will care if you do a fourth or not. The three years is what they want to see, not four.

The main problem with your schedule is that you are not taking AP english in your junior year. I would change that if I were you.

Take AP physics C this year and don’t drop for 4

Take AP psych. It’s an easy A and will get you useful gen-ed credit at most schools.

Senior year schedule is tough but doable even with major time commitments like sports and job, without those it’s actually pretty easy.

Thanks for your insight, I was originally inclined toward that. And our school requires a bare minimum of 2 years of a foreign language, but most people in our school take at least the third or fourth level. I guess I was just bandwagoning then.

Why is that a problem?

Refer to one.

I was most inclined to that class; and I think I will enjoy it too!

I have sports and music, so hope I brave it through!

That is not a problem.

Jimmy’s referring to colleges that recommend/require 4 years of foreign language, not what your HS graduation requirements are. You can view college’s language recommendations [url=https://www.asdk12.org/depts/world_lang/program/HS/University_WLReq.pdf]here[/url]

Keep in mind that some colleges will have foreign language requirements in order to graduate, and the more you do in HS, the fewer classes you will need in college. I would not change your schedule this year, but would suggest revisiting Spanish IV for senior year, or next summer.

Physics C E/M is, IMO, the most difficult AP class/test, but it won’t be any easier next year. Bite the bullet and go for it.

There’s no foreign language in college if you are majoring in engineering.

@bvo112‌ that’s not true. Many colleges will still make you take foreign language regardless of major.

Not taking AP english is not an issue. I would not worry about taking a 4th year of language. You’ll do fine at many schools without it.
