Like many others perusing the forum "transfer students," I'm also an aspiring transfer student (currently a first year college student) who hopes to leave the place I'm currently at. I have some schools already selected for where I hope to be at for the Fall 2009 term.
My stats from high school are as follows:
gpa from high school: 3.85 (I know it was around the 3.8 range) (weighted)
ranking: 16/144
SAT: 2030 (yeah not so great)
Activities: Student Council Vice President; National Honor Society Vice President; Med/ed (local medical program); Academic Decathlon; Writer for School Journal; Member of Regional Orchestra; over 100 hours of volunteer work
I took pretty much all the AP courses offered at my high school.
Well, I know I could've done better with my academic career in high school (like the SATs; ranking/gpa; etc.)
So I took that to heart, and am currently excelling in all my college courses (Basically, I'm quite positive of having a 4.0). And I also started Red Cross club on campus, and am in three other school clubs.
I want to apply to the following schools as a transfer student, and I'd like people to chance me for the following schools:
WashU
Vanderbilt
Northwestern
Rice
UTA
Boston College
NYU

What current school do you go to?

and IMO with a 2030 and a 3.85
WashU- Sorry, WashU is really hard to get into don't think you will get in
Vanderbilt- I think you have a good chance at Vanderbilt (low match)
Northwestern- I also think you have a good chance at getting in at Northwestern with a 4.0 from your current school
Rice- Don't know much about Rice except that it is a good school so can't help you much here
UTA- You're in at UT-Austin (high match)
Boston College- You're in at Boston College(high match)
NYU- You're in at NYU (match) unless its NYU Stern (then its most likely a rejection or very low chance of a match)

I see, thanks for the feedback. And as for what school I currently go to; it's basically a no-name university where most of the people just go to in order to get some form of college education. Profs are pretty terrible; TAs are undergrad students who are generally ill-informed and lazy. No funding/grants for research exists at this school. And I know people always say to try and enjoy where you currently are at, but it's been hard to do that.
Well, I was waitlisted for WashU last year. But if you say it's pretty tough to get into, I'll take your word for it. Although it is rather unfortunate since I really like WashU. lol

With a college/university GPA of 4.0, you have a good chance at all of your schools. If you are not seeking financial aid, then you have a better chance at all of your schools. If you have a convincing & compelling reason for transferring to any particular university, then that may be your best odds of all. Texas & NYU (except Tisch & Stern) are the most likely to accept you as a transfer student.

Why do you consider WashU so much better than the rest?

If you honestly feel that your SAT score is too low, it wouldn't be harmful to take it again, although I'm not sure of the time frame (maybe it's too late?).

Considering you want to go into the field of medicine and your current school's lack of research funding, you have a good argument to transfer, so goodluck! (that is if you want to do research)

I am applying to Washington U too!!
