How doable is it to have all your classes start after 10? I'm not a morning person by any stretch of the imagination.

bondgirl0409:

It is very doable to keep your classes later, especially if you are in a more flexible major. If you are in a major with a lot of required classes, such as a science major or something in Tisch, it might be a little more difficult. I am a Tisch Film major (I know it says music, but I'm the roommate of that girl) and I was able to get by with my earliest class being at 9:30. There are a lot of options in the afternoon and evening. Good luck!

How is Rubin?

Rubin's pretty chill this year. The food's decent (though the pizza is better in Hayden and Kimmel). I'm addicted to the fro-yo (frozen yogurt) and burgers. The staff's really nice too. There's weekly fire drills to test the alarm system, so I suggest you learn when they are and avoid being in the building for it; I still get caught off guard. The only inconvenience is that there isn't a Campus Cash machine. Oh, and I love the washing machines & dryers because I can wash all of my clothes four $4 (and I have a LOT of clothes) although the basement is creepy looking. And to parents out there, there's security cameras mostly everywhere: exits/entrances, laundry room, and around the 2nd floor lounge, for safety reasons. Also, nothing's too far from Rubin, including great (& cheap) restaurants around 2nd & 3rd Street. People say that Rubin's the quietest freshman dorm, but I think most of us just go out to party and socialize.

Ah cool, thanks!

1) are there bunk beds in hayden?

2) does every dorm at nyu have its own bathromm, or are there those showers that you share with everyone on the floor?

All the dorms have bathrooms with showers/baths. Not sure about the first question, but I don't think so.

I read somewhere about "double beds" which I'm assuming are a better name for bunk beds? haha

bondgirl0409:
Not all of the dorms have bunk beds, but some of the triples do. All of the rooms do have their own bathrooms with shower/baths, which is great, but you do have to clean them.

bimachris:
Double bed means a size. It's talking about the width of the bed. Also, the beds in the dorms need extra-long twin sheets, which are a little harder to find unless it's the time of year right before the fall when everyone is college shopping. Try Bed Bath and Beyond. They have a great selection, and there's one right by the campus.

Oh okay I see. Sounds good. They jack up the prices though during that time right? gah no bargains lol

I have a question about credits because I kind of want to know which APs I should take this year.

How many natural science credits do you need as a Sternie? Do you need a certain amount each semester, or do you just have a total amount you have to try to knock out whenever? Or do you only need to earn a certain amount freshman year and you're done with science?

Is it possible to double major in Film and Business, or even minor in Film while majoring in Business?

I heard it was extremely hard to do this since the two majors are in two different schools: Tisch and Stern, respectively.

^ I was thinking about the exact same combination last year, but it's really not possible to double major in film and business because it's two specialty majors because each requires a lot of time and dedication. It's easy to double major in liberal arts majors from CAS.

But you can do business minors. You can choose from a Business in Entertainment, Media, Technology Minor from Stern, a Pre-Business Minor from CAS, or a Producing Minor from Tisch. You can pick up two minors. One major and two minors is equal to the same number of credits as double majoring. It's a good option, I'll be doing that. Just thought I'd share, haha.

Oh I forgot to add: These business classes are all taught by the same Stern professors who teach the business majors. And minoring in Film isn't possible. There are only a few Tisch classes open to non-Tisch students through the Open Arts Curriculum but I don't think film production is one of them. There is a minor in Cinema Studies though, you can also double major in Cinema Studies through CAS.

Does NYU give interviews? Can i request one? I am in NYC. Or they don't give it to anyone? Thanks.

thank you asking my previous question :)

i have a couple more: 1) are there a lot of vegetarian options w/in the meal plans? and 2) how far away is greenwich village from central park?

thank you!

the admission said a lot of people applyed to nyu this year. is it an increase from last year? i don't understand why it's happening... nyu is expensive and tend to not give a lot of financial aid; the economy is really bad now, most of people are applying to public schools, but why the number of nyu applicants increased?

Sorry I've been away for a while. Seasonal flu, but I'm back to answer your questions!

To WZLYLOVER: NYU does NOT give interviews and it's pretty impossible to get one (I've tried). I doubt there policy has changed, though I think it should.

To shrin: I know that AP courses like English and math don't warrant an exemption from those classes but simply give you credits towards your degree, but you have to get a 4 or 5 on the exam. I don't know how many nartural science credits Sternies have specifically (but I'll ask my friends in Stern) but my best guess is that if it's like most other majors aside of pre-med and natural science majors, there's only 1 or 2 science requirements, which you probably won't get into your first year. Oh, take courses in micro- or macro-economics if you can. You'll have to study it here anyway, but it's easier to handle than never having studied. You're going to be doing A LOT of reading. I hope you like the layout of Bobst.

To bondgirl: Don't worry about vegetarian options. I've inadvertently become a vegetarian just being here. There's salad bars, veggie burgers, parfaits, pizza, pastas, thai dishes. My roommate's a vegetarian, and she hasn't had issues finding anything to eat. I feel bad for meat lovers, though. Central park is around 72nd street. Washington square is 4th street. Cheapest way is the subway ($2). Though I think there raising the fare this year. During Welcome Week most R.A.'s put up subway maps for you to see. I usually take the D train, but the 6 train can get you there (maybe a couple blocks away).

to WYLZLOVER: It's more ED applicants. But I know about a dozen kids from my high school who are dying to get into NYU. Class of 2009 is the largest graduating class so far, but I son't think the numbers will be that much higher than last year. The economy is faltering (though by 2010, prayerfully, it'll start to strengthen), but I wouldn't worry too much. There will always be kids who can't or won't go to NYU for one reason or another just like there has always been. I thinkk NY residents are most likely attend is accepted because NY state programs have so many grants and scholarships for in-state students that they can attend NYU for public school prices or cheaper. I'm frriends with a New Yorker who's going here on nearly a full ride because of an academic program. But even still, NYU values diversity and they'll want to get people from all over the world let alone the country. Don't sweat it.

Sorry I've been away, again. On a last note, it is impossible to double major in business and film because both Tischies and Sternies have so much work and projects. Both types stay up late studying, writing, and preparing projects/papers for classes. It's easier to minor in business and major in film since yes, Tisch tends to just take care of their own. (just try getting a work study job there w/out being a major). And I'll try to see if I can get an academic outline for you, shrin. Everyone usually gets one from their respective schools. Thanks for all the questions!

Thanks! :)

Oh, I forgot to ask last time, but even though I'm in Stern, I'm a theater kid at heart, so which theater groups are available for me to join as an extracurricular activity?

Thanks again for being here to answer our questions! :)

Thanks!
"I thinkk NY residents are most likely attend is accepted because NY state programs have so many grants and scholarships for in-state students that they can attend NYU for public school prices or cheaper."
I am from NYC, but i know nothing about these grants and scholarships. Are they need-based? I grew up in Shanghai, China. Hope that will give me an advantage. ^_^
