Hey there, fellow Hendrix shoppers ...

I think those of us who are 35 and over are very aware of the world in which we live. Often, though, we are disappointed. Growth comes with age. You'll understand one day.

hahaha......wow...this is getting nasty...

I certainly don't mean for it to be nasty. I just think someone who has said, "naive teenagers... the only good parties involve free flowing alcohol... when you are older you'll learn that" is the one who doesn't grasp the world in which he lives. It saddens me that someone must depend on a substance to have a good time. Don't get me wrong, I am not a prude, but I never felt that a substance was necessary to have a good time. I'd be willing to bet that the "old" folks here agree with me. Again, that's where experience comes in to play ... live and learn. I'm well-educated and I don't mean in the school-sense only ... I mean in life, too.

SplashMom, speaking as one of the "old" folks <g>, I completely agree with your post.
I now realize how incredibly lucky I am to be living in Arkansas (great scholarship programs). Sorry to hear it guys.

Let me second that. Every time I logged on to read this board, I was hoping to see good news for the Hays candidates. Sorry the envelopes were thin. :-( Still, it sounds like Hendrix is offering some major $ for your very deserving kids. :-)

ArkansasMom, you have a junior dd, right? Do you think she will consider Hendrix? That Governor's Scholar program is fabulous!!!!

SplashMom, yes my dd is a junior this year and I am very much hoping that she will choose Hendrix. She has visited and liked it, but right now her dream school is MIT. (She loves Boston, is thinking about engineering and was awed by an MIT presentation we went to in Memphis last fall.) Knowing her personality, I think Hendrix would be absolutely the perfect fit for her. It's the only school in AR that she is seriously considering and says that if she doesn't get into MIT, she would be happy at Hendrix. She is not very financially aware (checked "money is not a problem" on the ECOS Princeton Review - LOL!!! - luckily I saw that and informed her otherwise!) - so I don't think she fully realizes the value of the Gov. Scholar program. Yes, it is a fabulous scholarship opportunity and I am so glad it will make Hendrix a possibility for her. I just hope the state continues to fund it. (A few years ago, there was some kind of shortfall and they cut funding for a year.)

Son received the FinAid letter today...looks pretty good with all the scholarships. It's amazing what an extra $1500 will do over 4 years (FAFSA and Hays). Now it's just getting him to send a pic for the face book by May 1st...I'm really wondering how he is going to manage without me reminding him of deadlines....time to let go is creeping up on me "(

Regarding the alcohol comment: Not to say you cannot have a good party without alcohol, but the increase of the fun factor is facilitated greatly by a looser restrain on inhibitions. If I want to have a dignified conversation with my friends about politics it'll probably happen during lunch. If I would like to let loose, say some crazy ****, and satisfy my teenage hormones by making out with a random chica then I'll get smashed at a party.

Some people are just way too uptight... I work hard... And I play hard... Keeps me from burning out...

One's misc. knowledge of the world may increase with age, however, the way we interpret, manipulate, and evaluate that knowledge becomes pretty set in the early 20's when we have reached cognitive maturation. And with a significant factor lacking in any of the latter three it is almost impossible for one to realize their role in the world and how they should relate to it.

So sad, as expected, D received the call today.

AKmom, hope your d makes it to MIT! I must say that Cambridge is very different from AR!

ArkansasMom, I'm sure your dd will make the right decision about schools when the time comes. She sounds like she's got a great head on her shoulders.

Texasmom, I expect dd's financial aid package tomorrow and don't foresee any surprises, although I'm not opposed to good surprises.

motherof4pearls, I'm so sorry to hear that your dd didn't get the Hays, either. I'm still so very proud of them all!

Astrife, good luck in school. If my memory is still halfway decent in 26 or so years, I may just have to re-visit College Confidential and see if your views as a parent will be very different than they were as a high school senior. Take care. I'm sure you'll be fine.

D received financial letter today. It too is a small envelope. (Baylor's came in a glossy folder with a glossy financing info book.) No surprises. No additional need based or anything. A nice offer, but about $10,000 left per year for us to figure out. Still very much on the radar though.

However, D is EXTREMELY excited about volleyball coach coming to watch her play in Houston this weekend!

Thanks! MIT is a ---r-e-a-c-h---> for her, but she wants to try. Although Conway and Cambridge don't have much in common besides starting with "C" <g>, Hendrix and MIT do have some commonalities. :-)</g>

"However, D is EXTREMELY excited about volleyball coach coming to watch her play in Houston this weekend!"

Wow, maysixxmom, that's great!!!

Great news, maysixxmom. I hope the volleyball game went great! Let us know how things go.

Looks as if no one here knows anyone who DID get the Hays. Is there a way to find out who got it? Just wondering if I met any of them.

We haven't heard from anyone who did receive the award. Given the caliber of the ones we met, they must have really been something.

DD knows one of the recipients (met at the scholarship weekend). She was very excited to learn that this person had won and felt they were very deserving. Surely they will soon post the winners online or publish a news story about it ... such a special, special award. Let me just say again how impressed I was with all of the candidates. Please don't think of this as a failure, think of it as an accomplishment as you are part of a select group of special people invited to this event.

It's been pretty quiet here...everyone waiting until April 1st to see what other schools offer??? Anyone have a favorite college basketball team they hope to see in the final four?

Haha.....^ Arkansas perhaps?

....for the Final Four, that is.
