Geez, Astrife, did I hit a nerve or something?

This is my second kid heading off to college. Of course drugs are available anywhere you go if that's what you're into. Of course there's no such thing as a perfect fit. Where did I ever say there was? Accusing me of "belittling those who "let loose differently on the weekends than your daughter" and "...this superficial bs of a drug atmosphere you are concerned about is ridiculous" was rather harsh, don't you think?

She's been successfully navigating her way around the high school drug culture for years, but her high school is also three times the size of Hendrix. We were just rather bummed that the kid portrayed the drug scene as a major play on such a small campus and that she had to put up with the conversation in the first place.

For others on this thread, D got a call from the admin office on Monday...didn't get the Hays, but did get some more $$ for another scholarship. She has similar scholarship amount offers from six other schools, so now it's up to her to decide her best fit!

I'm sorry to hear the news maysixxmom. Maybe we'll have a letter in the mail when we get home. I know Hendrix is where dd will land. It is the perfect school for her. I was just hoping that the financial part would be a little easier, but to see her there on campus and in her element will make it worth the $$$. Since we missed the call yesterday, I e-mailed dd's admissions counselor who replied that she will call again today after school. Maybe some admissions counselors write letters and some call. I'm not sure how that works. I'm sure your dd will choose the right school for her. Good luck to her in her upcoming interview at SMU.

No more waiting for us. DD got the thin letter today ... no Hays for her. With the $15K per year for Merit and Odyssey, the extra $1K for early FAFSA submission and $500 extra for attending the Hays weekend, that's $16,500 per year, which certainly makes Hendrix affordable with good budgeting. I'm disappointed, but we kind of knew all along.

Good luck and best wishes to those of you still waiting to hear. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you! Please let us know when you hear something.

acc- Keep Hope Alive!
Splashmom, maysixx, and others. Sorry you had to join me in the "out" boat. I haven't given up on Hendrix yet; it's still in my final two, pending the arrival of the 'final' aid package offer - if it would ever get here!!!

DD's admissions counselor just called. Her financial aid packet was sent out today, so we expect it to arrive Friday or Saturday. Although a bit disappointed about the Hays, I just know that Hendrix is the place for our dd. Thanks for the kind words, froho. Sorry about the letter, acc. Just realized you edited to reflect the "no", so I'm editing, too. Yes, johnnydr87, you are very fortunate to live in a state that has such fabulous education dollars available for your college education!

Okay, I want to meet the kids who got a yes. They must be superhuman. Splash -- I definitely thought ya'll had it. We're at $17,500 without the National Merit school choice (another $1,000 for Hendrix.) I hope the final finaid package looks better than Baylor. That one made me laugh right out loud!

But just one more time to make me feel better, if that's possible, AAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! REALLY WANTED HAYS!

I agree with you, maysixxmom, that the winners must be something special. Let's face it, though, all of the kids who attended were special. I keep reminding myself that they are all in the top 1% of students and that just makes me so proud. Although I was bummed to learn dd didn't get the Hays, my immediate words to her were, "That has no affect on whether or not you can go to Hendrix." She only applied to two schools and we've known for quite some time that Hendrix really is the school for her. If she goes elsewhere, I'll be shocked. Don't get me wrong ... we will definitely have to take out loans and do some serious budget alterations, but I just know it will be worth it. She has applied from some additional scholarships, so I'll continue to keep my fingers crossed for those, too. I don't really look for anything to come of the financial aid package, especially after getting the FAFSA results.

The increase is from President's scholarship to Regents. It basically doubles your money. Baylor is in the running, just not a 1st choice, even with the added $$$. But thanks for pointing it out.

Texasmom, according to dd's admissions counselor, her financial aid package was mailed out today, so my guess is that all of them are being mailed this week.
