Well, hello!

I am applying to transfer, and I have seen already but very few we are (when compared to the freshman applicants anyway), so I figured we should meet here, tell:

Where we are applying from

Why transfer

Whether it's your fresh or soph yr.

And then we can support each other until decision comes out sometime in... mid-May!

I'll start:

St. Thomas University (Tiny private school in South Florida)

Because MIT seems like the perfect fit

Freshman =)

Also, feel free to add any useful stuff.

P.S. I thought this thread was necessary as aside from the "MIT Transfer" Webpage, there's not much info out there.... not even stats =( (aside from one single numerical value, that being the admit rate)

UMaine

I love MIT

Sophomore

I wish all transfers will be hit by a beer truck except me. Of course including you! :)

^ I don’t think that’ll be necessary as we seem to be the only 2 applicants for the usual 15 spots! =P

Then lets keep this thread busy.
Are you physics major, math major or…?

Math. Math & Chem.

Although I am thinking of switching. My school doesn’t have a very big program in either math or physics (we only have physics minor), so so far, I have a double major in Math & Chem with a minor in physics but I think ideally, it’d want a double major in math & physics with a minor in chem.

Damn! I can’t think of anything else to ask! =/ haha

How are your essays? (I ask because I am terrible writer and had some trouble writing them)

I am not a good writer but I thought my essays were good enough.
I could not stop writing because I had so much story to tell.
I wrote the two regular essay, the “what else can you tell us” essay and one extra essay.
I also sent three abstract papers. My former high school teacher also sent 20 pages long research of mine.
Compared to my SAT scores, I think my essays were brilliant. I did not had trouble writing them because my entire past is full of stories.

I tried hard and wrote so much, but I know they will reject me any ways.

When do they release the decisions?
I think they will release around May, we still have two months to go :(?
Good luck

Hi, CS major here. I actually just sent my application today xD

Trinity College Dublin, Ireland. But I am actually from Kazakhstan and I study here thanks to scholarship.

We all wrote an essay on this topic. In fact it was very hard to keep it to 500 words limit, there are way too many reasons.

Sophomore. According to the transfer website “However, we cannot accept applications from students who at the time of entry will have finished less than one year of college or who would be within three terms of earning their bachelor’s degree.” I thought it means that you cant apply as freshman, or can you? Oo

I wrote 2 regular essays, the optional one and I wrote essays as answers to “Activities” and “Summer activities” cause those 2 questions did not specify the word limit or anything and I found that the space provided was too tiny for such a broad topic. As I mentioned above I had real troubles keeping essays below 500 words. But I am not a good writer tho.

In fact now I think about sending some of my abstract papers as well. Probably gonna email them about sending additional stuff.

^ I think the idea is that freshman transfer students who are accepted will enter MIT as sophomores (therefore, with a full year under their belts).

We already have four transfers - PiperXP
Keep it busy!

What? I was responding to Khazidhea about how freshman can be transfers.

Yeah, but don’t you see the MINUS sign!

Didn’t realize you were using the dash as a minus sign in this instance ^.^

Fordham University

MIT is my dream school

Freshman

Mathematics major taking upper level courses

I have just received a letter from MIT.

It was a reminder that they were missing my Evaluation C.

With this note

I figured I’d bump this thread because I applied too. Any ideas about when the decisions would be released?

I think they released the decisions May 6th or 7th last year.

MIT told me today that they haven’t chosen a decision release date yet. They’re mostly likely still working on the applications until the last possible moment. I figure we’ll hear back by the 10th or something.

Got my email today and I was rejected. What about you guys?

I GOT IN!!!

OMG IM SOOOO EXCITED!!! I’ll write details later! =D
