i got a 217 on the psat while i was a junior. however, in ny state, that doesnt qualify me for semifinalist. i missed semifinalist by 1 point, as the cutoff was 218. is it advisable to cross out one of the sat spots in the application and write in my psat score, since in many other states, id easily be a semifinalist? thanks for your responses everyone !

No.......and now you know why many schools don't really care about National Merit......like CA for one. I guess you should have moved to Arkansas or one of the states with a low score who will be sending their finalists to colleges and claiming that the student raises the quality of their class......right. Too bad for you but don't stress about it.

Put your efforts into getting an equally high SAT score. While colleges will not care about your PSAT score unless you made National Merit, they definitely will care about your SAT score. That's the score that they use to select students, and that's used when colleges are ranked.

and at really competitive schools, National Merits are a dime a dozen, so it still doesnt matter.
