High Rises

I have heard great things about Harrison and FreshEx there, but I also hear that it is hard to get into. Is there any difference between the high rises for freshmen? I know somebody who lives in one of the other high rises who doesn't like it because his advisor lives there and he says she yells at him all the time.

it does not matter where you live at upenn, crime is everywhere. just last week there was a hold up on walnut street in the middle of the “campus”. the campus is part of the city.
i am getting out of this dump. if you are accepted to another college, go there or you will regret it. the filth, the food, the rats, the traffic, the police sirens etc.
it is not worth the money.

I lived in Harnwell (the other high rise that freshmen can live in) as a freshman this year. I was quite happy with it; the facilities are great and I had awesome roommates. I’ve been happy with my RA as well - she was nice and we never had any issue with her.
The only problem with Harnwell is that it is less social for freshmen than FreshEx (and, really, every other dorm). There will only be 8 to 10 freshmen total on your floor. This isn’t a hindrance to making friends, but having lots of freshmen on your floor does make it much easier. I would list FreshEx as your first choice (I did that, and didn’t get in), and list Harnwell as second if you’re comfortable with meeting others.

Hypocrat–Traffic is a legitimate reason to not go to Penn? It doesn’t seem like academics, social life, or career opportunities are very important to you relative to the number of police sirens on campus. I get the sense it’s your priorities, not the rats, that makes you unhappy at Penn. But for the OP, I will say that the only downside I gathered on my visits was that few freshmen live there so it’s not as easy to find a friend group in your dorm. But if that’s worth it, then I think you’d love it.
