Chances at these schools?

UCSD
UCSB (engineering or regular admission)
Cal Poly (engineering)
UCD
UCI

What schools would you recommend I apply to? So far my top 3 are definitely UCSD, UCSB, and Cal Poly

bump 10char

Please can someone tell me what my chances are for those colleges, or what other colleges you’d think I’d stand a good shot at.

Spanish as in Spaniard?

That does not count as hispanic

I beg to differ, I just read the law that defines what ethnicity you are as dictated by federal law specifically for college application profiles and it specifically lists Spain.
Either way, what are my chances at the colleges?

Oh shoot I forgot to say my SAT II’s

Math 2 = 700 (took in November so might go up to like 730)
Physics = 670

10 char bump

what is your UCGPA?

UCSD - reach
UCSB (engineering or regular admission) - match
Cal Poly (engineering) - reach
UCD - low match
UCI - low match
USC - reach
Boston University - match

Hispanic of any kind does not matter at UC’s.

Spain is part of the Eurasian continent. How could it be listed as “hispanic”. They are caucasian by blood…

hey i have pretty close stats to you and im applyin to most of those schools too
UC gpa 3.5
SAT- CR-760 Math-730 Writing-700

best of luck then freesnowcone…I’m really hoping on UCSB

Ya I’m not understanding how Spaniards are Hispanics all of a sudden. Spaniards are Europeans so wouldn’t that make them white? Makes no sense.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/hispanic-students/641650-hispanic-latino-defined-aka-am-i-hispanic.html</a>
""Hispanics or Latinos are those people who classified themselves in one of the specific Spanish, Hispanic, or Latino categories listed on the Census 2000 questionnaire -‘Mexican, Mexican Am., Chicano,’ ‘Puerto Rican’, or ‘Cuban’ -as well as those who indicate that they are ‘other Spanish/Hispanic/Latino.’ Persons who indicated that they are ‘other Spanish/Hispanic/Latino’ include those whose origins are from Spain, the Spanish-speaking countries of Central or South America, the Dominican Republic or people identifying themselves generally as Spanish, Spanish-American, Hispanic, Hispano, Latino, and so on.

"Origin can be viewed as the heritage, nationality group, lineage, or country of birth of the person or the person’s parents or ancestors before their arrival in the United States.

“People who identify their origin as Spanish, Hispanic, or Latino may be of any race.”"

"-- Hispanic or Latino. A person of Cuban, Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, South or Central American, or other Spanish culture or origin, regardless of race. The term, “Spanish origin,” can be used in addition to “Hispanic or Latino.”

"“I’m mixed - part Hispanic, part non-Hispanic.”

Yes, in general, if you as a mixed-heritage person wish to identify as Hispanic, you can. However, you should check to see if the institution (university, scholarship fund, etc) to which you are providing this information, has a “blood quantum” requirement - for instance, the NHRP requires awardees to be at least 1/4 Hispanic. It is possible that you will be able to identify as Hispanic in some cases and not others."

UCSD - reach
USC - reach
Cal Poly - match (?)
UCSB - match
Boston University - match
UCD - match
UCI - match

I can’t really say for certain given your GPA, but you have outstanding SAT scores and I’m sure that will help.

look below XP

UCSD - high match ( sat score should compensate low gpa)
USC - Reach
Cal Poly - match don’t know much about it
UCSB - In
Boston University - In
UCD - In
UCI - In

Depends on your school too. I know people with 3.7 gpa weighted that got into sd from our skol ranked in top 100

Stop bickering about the definition of “Hispanic” versus “Caucasian,” people. Dude, call yourself whatever you want. When it asks me “ethnicity,” I leave it blank or put “prefer not to respond” and when it asks me race, I put “human.” I’m a white guy from Ohio.
