High school class of 2016

^No, I wouldn’t be able to join that.

i am taking Math I and Chem :P

Today has been very hectic for me. I’ve been trying to plan the perfect Model UN party for the seniors tomorrow, filled with awesome ethnic cuisine, gifts, etc. It’s going to be our last meeting before they leave for their awesome Ivy League colleges and after that we have Model UN to ourselves, aha

BTW, is anyone going to the William and Mary conference, BOSMUN, or Dartmouth Model UN next year??? We are so totally going to at least three of these.

I exist! catches up this thread Oh my gosh, you guys are so smart and do stuff I’m ashamed of my laziness LOL Reminds me of the time when I found out my freshman friend already takes AP Calc and took Geometry in 6th grade, haha. (Totes late but @Apollo11: Flowers for Algernon was SAD, man)

I haven’t even touched the SAT or PSAT tests, but I have read some review guide for the SAT that has helped a numerous amount of kids get a 2400 on their SAT… I should feel the most ashamed haha

@Khan Academy: I’ve seemed some videos on differential equations and on computer programming. They’re pretty cool, but I wish they came along with practice sheets so you could progress with the class.

Hm, anybody taking the PSAT this October?

Yeah, school requires it for sophomores.

Nice. My school doesn’t require it for sophomores, but it’s recommended. Hoping to break 200 this time, haha.

My school makes you take it fresh-junior years. Hoping around a 210 this year with 80 math

Yeah my school makes sophomores take it. So I’ll have to take it again this fall, along with the actual SAT.

What kind of standardized tests do you guys take to graduate? Here in GA, we take the EOCT (End-Of-Course-Test) and basically you take it in like 8 key classes, of which you have to pass to graduate. (This year I took Biology, Algebra 1, and 9th Lit). The problem with it is that the test itself counts as 20% of your entire average for the semester (state law required) and they grade them on an bell curve. That helped most kids, but considering that we had no idea what to expect on the Biology test, I had a hard time with it so I basically got stuck in the “curve” so I got the score most kids got (in the 90-94 range- I got a 93) and so basically that was 20% of my grade, and being like most of us kids on CC It brought my grade down a point (99 to a 98 in Biology). And it makes me so mad because I worked so hard this semester (i was almost at a 100) and now my grade is barely a 98. Do you guys thinks its fair to grade based off these standardized tests? Sorry, I just really needed to rant. I thought you guys would understand, unlike 99.9% of the human population at my school eyeroll :-)

I know it sounds dumb that I was concerned about a 98 but I was trying to give an example, it more worries me about classes that I might take in the future, and how these tests impact our grades. Just thought I’d try to get some insight on you guys opinions lol.

Paragraphs, man. I pretty much just skimmed the end of that wall of text. Yeah, it’s pretty dumb that part of your grade depends on a standardized test that probably doesn’t thoroughly test content knowledge, but hey, that’s the system so roll with it. On the other hand, it’s also a bit absurd to freak out over a 98 which probably isn’t much lower than your grade pre-exam. So it probably won’t affect future class grades too much either.

I’ve been creeping on this forum for a while…hey you guys! :D

My standardized testing (CST) doesn’t do a lot for your grade. It helps schools choose what classes you will be in but usually a student has more power over that than the test.

My standardized test can be passed by anyone with a pulse. It doesn’t really have anything to do with your grade, but you have to pass to graduate. You take it sophomore year.

@ofmunstersandmen Hello! :D

Those of you taking AP classes (this is CC so I guess all of you) did you have to do anything to take an AP class or did you just sign up?

I had to sign up for my SAT’s. I take the EOCT too, Biology is today for me. The EOCT is curved A LOT. The math class that the class of 2016 is taking this year is a new curriculum and the tests aren’t looking good. I’m expecting a major curve.

@ofmunstersandmen Technically, I suppose you could just sign up for them. At my school, they just gave all freshmen a list of classes they could choose from for sophomore year and there were APs on there. As long as you met the prereqs, then you were able to sign up for them.

You have to Apply for them here.

Send in a copy of your PSAT (or SAT or ACT) scores (if you took up), get some recs, wait and see.
