High school class of 2016

Although I am proud of being the only African-American sophomore in my school taking 2 APs ;)

Good Job, although I will have 19-20 APs by the time I graduate High School.

Do you really feel the need to brag about how many APs you’re taking?

Nope, not at app ;P

What does that mean?

All* Sorry.

I don’t think 2 AP’s is anything to truly brag about.

Class of 2016 is awesome!

Does anyone else get slightly annoyed when there will be an ongoing conversation on this thread and a new member shows up, kind of interrupting it? Not to single the person above out, it’s not your fault. That was me in December 2012. I don’t want to come off the wrong way, I welcome all fellow 16ers.

@Highschool, I was reffering to anon not you.
And no, not really. I mean it happens a lot so I don’t mind it.

An Username8, welcome to the class!

Don’t mean to brag. Sorry

You’re fine
I just sensed a bit of “1-upsmanship”.
It was probably me reading things incorrectly

Time for my return (and bragging)

24 APs.

And I’m dropping out of high school senior year (technically)

What does your race have to do with amount of AP classes?

Let’s not start this…
She probably just goes to a school that has certain “expectations”.

Also, there are still schools in the U.S were blacks are “discouraged” from taking AP classes by the school administration.

It makes it seem like she expects less of herself just because she is black. Race should be a non-factor, as it plays no part in how the brain works as far as we know

And screw the administration. They can’t really do anything but “discourage”. Not to mention that this seems like an outlandish accusation anyways, and borders on defamation if it cannot be proven.

(There is a bee in my room angry face)

And I’m not sure how you can infer that.
I think she’s saying that others expect less of her because she is black. And unfortunately race isn’t a non-factor. If it was racial profiling would not exist, discrimination in job searching would not exist, and Affirmative Action would not be necessary. Pretending like we live in a race-blind society isn’t going to just make all our racial problems go away. They exist.

(What makes it outlandish? My own mother was not given her proper respect as Valedictorian because of her race.)

I said it seems like she is saying that due to the way that she finds what seems to be pride in the fact. And honestly, it seems more racist to me that quotas of minorities have to be filled, and qualified people of all races can be denied jobs. Reverse racism is not the way to solve problems, especially when those problems aren’t seen as real problems by lots of people.

And by lots of people, you mean people that aren’t discriminated against based on race, correct? I’m not going to argue this with you. And studies have proved that blacks are less likely to be called back for jobs despite greater or equal qualifications.

And affirmative action isn’t simply “Race Based” it benefits caucasian females more than any other group.

I’m offended that you all think that I think less of myself because I am black. That is not true. Others think less of me because I’m black, and that’s not my fault. Am I not allowed to have pride in being the only African-American in a grade of 600 students to take 2 APs? Sure it’s not much compared to you all, but at my school, it’s something you don’t see often.
