High school class of 2016

Done with summer work! Yessssss!

What do you guys think about graduating early?

There’s really no upside to it.

I beg to differ. A lot of people oppose graduating early and to be honest, I don’t know why. If you feel you are mature enough, why not? You get a head start on the “real world”, or job market, whatever you wish to call it, while your mates are still in college.

When you get older and you realize that you skipped a year of high school, a place where you’ll be for four years, you may ask yourself: for what? To be a little ahead of someone else? There are sooooo many other factors that come into play when looking for a job. It’s very possible that a person straight out of college could get a job before you, a person who would’ve been out for a year.

If you’ve seriously thought it through and realize that it’s something you want to do then go ahead. You’ll live and it’s really not that big of a deal.

Don’t do it just to do it. If you think it would be thoroughly beneficial for you then do it. I don’t see why anyone would as really there is no gain. Take advantage of the free classes you can at your high school (APs) that will later save you money in college Rather than rush straight there. Maturity is also another factor I will turn 17 after junior year and would be going to school with people 5 years older than me if I were to graduate early. Honestly that doesn’t sound attractive to me at all. May e it does to you, but definitely don’t do it because you can if you don’t know your intended major or career. If you stay in HS you will have one more year to build relationships with your teachers and GC for recommendations as well as to build your application.

Sorry, I’m tired and typing on my phone. Punctuation isn’t really my forte either.

At first I glamorized the idea of graduating a year ahead, then I actually entered high school and, while I’d love to get out of here, I don’t find it worth the extra work. I want to be an engineer, and I know the major is tough is college, so I’m not rushing it. Might as well enjoy these years (or try to) while you can get away with being a bum and not completely ruin your future. High school is just another necessary evil in life, like politicians and taxes. But if you’re set on it, why not?

Are we talking about graduating High School early, or graduating college early?
College- Yes, there are upsides (especially financially)
High School- No, there aren’t.

Graduating High School early wont help you with college admissions (they actually like to see 4 years), and wont give you some sort of “leg up” in the real world (one year doesn’t make a difference…and you’ll just be competing against a different group of people, so there is no benefit to the “job market”). You’ll simply not be with your class anymore. If you have a reason to leave, and really DON’T want to be in High School any longer, then sure, go for it. But there really is no “up side”. Working for one year vs Studying for one year doesn’t make much of a difference in the long run.

What do you guys think about taking a year off between college and highschool? I never really understood why people do it. Wouldn’t it hurt your chances of getting into college?

I don’t get it either…and once you take a break off its hard to get back on schedule

I don’t know either. I think primarily it’s people that don’t think they are ready. If you do take time off you really have to show that you used that time well to build your application not sat on the couch for a year.

Exactly what I’m thinking, I can’t imagine taking a year off and then coming back with 100% effort

Actually gap years really help apps.

Harvard even requests its accepted students to take a year off

School tomorrow, mixed feelings…

@highschool16 good luck!!!:grinning:

I start school tomorrow too HS16.
Hoping I didn’t screw up my summer work

Good luck to you both.

Good luck yall! The beginning of the most boring high school year woo
