Agreed.

Yeah. But to be fair, she’s coming from a tiny Catholic school.

@rachel my dream school is eastman - I’m a music major. (well, in 4 years anyway!)

I want to take geometry over the summer - it seems. Pretty easy, memorizing equations and using them. And proofs seem fun :)

Proofs suck. Then again, I was the kid who never showed their work.

Geometry? Fun? Hell no. (2015er here)

I took it in 8th grade, and I absolutely hated it. I still did well, but proofs suck so badly, and a lot of the concepts can be confusing.

Lalalalalalalala cants here you

^ I thought the same thing. Don’t underestimate Geometry, because it can and will kick your rear-end.

Yeah, my school doesn’t offer more than one math course for 8th grade, since the entire class goes to each subject together. Another high school has Algebra I for 8th graders early in the morning, but by the time I found out about it, it was too late to register. I may take algebra II over the summer after freshman or sophomore year, though.

Class of 2016 as well! I’m in agreement with akacesfan…don’t take underestimate Geometry. I thought it would be the easiest the easiest class, but instead it has been the hardest class I ever took.

I hate geometry. First B+ in middle school right there… I spent four hours this weekend doing my geometry packet with my helpful Asian dad guiding me through the entire thing.

And ALittleButterfly, heeyyy!

They say that those who are good with algebra have a harder time with geometry and vice versa. Algebra is pretty straight forward and logical while geometry is more spatial. So tread carefully.

Yeah Swinter, I’d agree with you there. Algebra was pretty easy for me, and I’ve been struggling with geometry.

I’m going to be in the class of 2016 for high school too. Right now, I’m taking Algebra I and Earth Science. We started some of geometry and to be honest, I prefer algebra over that any day. I still have to take my placement exam to see if i qualify to be placed in geometry next year. I would actually be satisfied taking algebra again.

You didn’t get the memo? If you’re not going to Harvard why even bother going to college at all? Algebra I freshman year? Have fun being a janitor. Everyone knows if you’re not 3 years ahead in Math you might as well be 3 years behind.

This is sarcasm, in case you couldn’t tell.

@plebeian your comments are very arrogant , not everyone has no social life because they want to study over the summer. It’s VERY disrespectful for you to use the word ■■■■■■- shows that you are ignorant and do no know how to express yourself in an acceptable way. Honestly academics only get you so far, and in case you didn’t know- Harvard, Yale and other top schools are ALL lottery schools, so the kid with the normal sequence of math could very well be accepted. It’s very evident that you have a lot of growing up to do.

@Plebeian Wow, aren’t you cool. Please, go ahead. Enthrall me some more about your advanced math and science studies. I’d love to know since you seem to have it all figured out.

Of course colleges like to see that, but you don’t necessarily have to start right away. For example, I’m planning on taking algebra II as a summer class. Just because I didn’t start three classes ahead as a freshman doesn’t mean I’m an idiot.

Because not everyone is strong enough in Math to handle it.

There are plenty of seniors in my school who did Algebra —> precalc and are the englishy/writer type who took AP Lit/Lang/History/etc. and are going to great schools like NYU and Michigan. Yeah if you wanna go to an ivy it might hurt you but you can still get into plenty of top schools if you’re not doing anything Math/Science (and I suppose business) related.

Just because you take Algebra 1 your freshman year doesn’t mean you have to be stuck taking Pre-Calculus your senior year. You can double up on math and do both Geometry and Algebra 2 in one year, getting you into Calculus your senior year. If you’re really determined, you can also take classes over the summer to get even more ahead. I know a guy who took Algebra 1 in the 9th grade, and by taking Geometry and Pre-Calculus in the summer, he’s now going to be a senior enrolling in Multivariable Calculus.
