I’m also taking WHAP and judging from the summer homework and looking through it seems like a pretty manageable course
@BucketsUCSC I didn’t do that well freshman year either, an upward trend will change that!
Yeah good luck
I’ve been practicing for the SAT (new one) a little bit and my score on the practice test I took was 1340/1600. That’s about 2010/2400 if it was converted. Getting a 1750 without studying is great.
@TP2000 what are you using to take the practice test?
Has anyone looked at the new PSAT practice? I don’t know what a good score is for that test, but I scored a 1410 out of 1520. I missed easy questions on the reading section and math (no calculator). I don’t know if it’s just me, but the new PSAT seems like it’s harder than the old one. I had no problem with the timing.
Is this schedule okay in terms of rigor?
Geometry
H English 10
AP Spanish Language
H Biology
Speech (a law program thematic class)
H World History (that’s what it says on the transcript, not sure if it’s true though.)
Physical Education 2
Leadership (extracurricular)
Maybe for privates not for UC’s though
@Hamlon I thought the new PSAT for math at least was far easier at least in terms of math I only missed one question I mean the 5 challenge questions at the end are somewhat hard. And for reading literature is kinda hard but data analysis and non fiction analysis seems really easy and for writing tw pretty straight forward if you learn all the grammar rules you need to know. @apple1893 great that u cracked 2k before even starting sophomore year wars ur goal I just wanna crack 2150 I don’t know what that is on a 1600 scale
@apple1893 I’m using the Barron’s PSAT book. I know that the PSAT and SAT aren’t the same, but they’re very similar except the PSAT lacks an essay and the PSAT is now scored out of 1520 vs. 1600.
@Hamlon Wow, that’s a really high score! It may be high enough to qualify for NMS (though it won’t count as the PSAT only matters for juniors).
@BucketsUCSC You know that most of the private schools that people on this website are trying to get into are much harder to get into than the UCs, right? If you’re in California then your chances for the UCs aren’t that bad as long as you have a good GPA/Sat Score/ECs.
@cxprus the schedule looks good for some of the UCs; which ones are you aiming for? Especially if you’re instate, have high scores, and are able to maintain a high enough GPA, then you will be fine.
@Kelvin82 The course says on my transcript H BIOLOGY A and H WHG: MOD WLD AB (and I assume it’s Honors) - My counselor told me my English class was Honors too. I am instate, and I’m aiming for UCLA, UCI, UCR, UCSB (so far) I might think about Berkeley and I want to major either in Psychology or Political Science.
@TP2000 have u ever heard about UC weighted honors courses @cxprus only has a single uc weighted honors or AP, which is AP Spanish language the rest don’t count for UCs I never said he can’t get into a UC I just said his rigor doesn’t match that of a typical UC applicant which can be overcome by high SAT scores High GPA great ECs ECt
By privates I was talking more along the lines of University of San Francisco university of San Diego, Pepperdine university etc.
@BucketsUCSC I just started two weeks ago. My extracurriculars are only three, Mock Trial, Key Club and Leadership. The progress report will be released in 3 weeks. I go to school in California.
https://hs-articulation.ucop.edu/agcourselist#/list/search/5?f= @cxprus check the uc weighted honors courses for your school through this website if you would like but I am 98 percent sure that honors biology honors geometry and honors world history don’t qualify as uc weighted honors courses
@BucketsUCSC Only IB and AP. Since my school only offers those.
Then take those since they count as honours as well
@BucketsUCSC I have heard of the system of weighted courses at the UCs. However, when they look at one’s course rigor they have to take in to account that not every school has any AP or IB courses, or even honors classes for that matter. And I just want to note that very few people take AP Spanish in their sophomore year, so he’s doing just fine.
I don’t know his GPA I don’t know his current SAT score I don’t know how EC’s all I know is his schedule and the AVERAGE sophomore schedule of students at those schools is much more rigorous than @cxprus so in terms of rigor he’s not doing great but rigor is not the most important thing Gpa is so if he gets a 4.2 and a 1350/1600 on the SAT he’ll probably but get in but as of now. Based of just rigor he isn’t doing just fine
