High School Class of 2018

@frazzledazzle I’ve been working on it for quite some time. I have an excel spreadsheet with all of my criteria (or rather current criteria). I usually go down the US News rankings and look at each schools and if it looks good, put it down on the spreadsheet and fill it in, so I can easily compare them and have the info I need. It gives me something constructive to do when I’m just chilling out at home.

Our school visited UCI as part of the college trip. UCI has a campus with pretty details. The fountain had this gigantic crystal orb that seemed to be floating on the water.

My list is mostly filled with state schools. Given that some schools aren’t affordable for me, I’m looking into scholarships and a couple of reaches.

My parents want me to stay in-state because Texas is already so big and I’ll probably have automatic admission to all the public universities. The problem is that I want real freedom and independence during my college years. I want to meet new people and actually have the option of…wait for it…dating!!! :))
@BucketsUCSC Dude, that’s more than enough time to bring your grade up! My last grading period was only four weeks with little room for error.

@frazzledazzle LOL i want to imagine you and mom having a conversation
“Mom I want to go to Caltech it’s my dream school I really want to go there”
“Honey be more realistic and aim for a school You’ll surely get into like Harvard” I don’t mean to offend you please dont take this the wrong way

@Hamlon How do you study for WHAP man theres just so much information that i forget on test day

@Madeline25 my school list
UCLA(reach)
UCSD( match)
UCSB( match)
UCI( match)
UCSC(low match)
UCR(low match)
San Diego State(low match)
UT Austin(high match)
U of Indiana(Match)
NYU Stern(High reach LOL)

@BucketsUCSC It’s cool. I think my mom doesn’t want me to go to Caltech because it’s 3,000+ miles away from home, whereas Harvard is only 5 hours by car.

@Madeline25 I have a list on Google Spreadsheet that lists a bunch of information about each school.

@Madeline25 my school list
UCLA
UCI
San Diego State
U of Colorado (any one with nursing)
U of Pennsylvania

It seems so short compared to your guys’ lists!

We’ve reached 100 pages on this forum!! <:-P

@frazzledazzle Woohoo!
@BucketsUCSC I just try to make sure I take detailed notes and understand why certain historical trends happened and not when. China is just a couple of cycles of peasant rebellions and “Germany” has been anti-Semitic since there were Jews in “Germany.”

Has anybody else heard about the controversy going on at Yale right now?

@frazzledazzle Go Black Bears!! I will be applying to USM and UMO, I think USM would be better though.

My list includes:
Umaine (umo/usm)
UNH
UNE
Boston University(reach, but manageable)
Tufts University(reach)
Wesleyan University(reach)

Small list right now, but I will most likely only be able to get into a state school so lets be realistic…

@tonyk16 Are you from Maine, too?!? UMaine is awesome! I love going up there to do research. Go Black Bears!!

@frazzledazzle Sure am. Umaine is awesome, but for some reason I feel USM or UNH would be better for me…I don’t know why. Snow pack data??

@tonyk16 Sweet! I use the new observatory to collect data for my science fair project. Last year I got data on the moons of Jupiter, and this year, hopefully, on a nearby star. I visited the place with snow pack data on a field trip last spring. Very cool. :wink:
I’m only considering UMaine because it’s close to home, along with it a safety school. I like the astronomy and music programs.

@frazzledazzle A few people at my school went last year too. Interesting programs. I have not heard of someone combining those two before, but it sounds like a cool combo. I’m not in any music stuff at my school, but kind of wish I was.
Umaine is great because they have so many different majors to choose from. Also they have one of the first honors programs I think.

I’m really looking into schools with good med/pre-med programs so I’ve got: Rutgers, BU, GW, UNC Chapel Hill, UPENN, Georgetown, Cornell, Rensselaer, and Columbia (I’ll cry if I get into any of them tbh)

@tonyk16 People tell me that a lot. Music and astronomy are the two major things I’m passionate about and want to pursue. It’s a lot of fun, and it’s never too late to learn an instrument.
There’s such variety there, it’s awesome. There are so many types of engineering to study there. My school’s STEM program really pushes for students to study engineering there. After completing the program, you would already have one year of UMaine engineering done. I dropped out of STEM, though. It was too focused on tech and engineering for my taste.
I read on their website that their honors program is one of the oldest, if not the oldest, in the country. I don’t remember for sure.

@mamba Same! Good pre-med program is definitely one of my top priorities. I Have you looked into Brown? People over hear claim its pre med program is unparalleled. Also I’ve heard a few rumors about Cornell’s being pretty brutal, so yeah you might want to be careful. I’m not sure how true that is though.
I’ve been to both Columbia and Georgetown and they are beautiful! I was actually just at Columbia last week (I’m wearing my tee shirt from there now haha). It’s so green for being right in the middle of Manhattan. I keep having to tell myself that I wouldn’t like it there because I need to get out of the city on a regular basis and traffic would be a nightmare. But its sooooo pretty…
Are you going to try for BU’s SMED? I’ve considered it, but I’m not sure how I like being committed to a certain med school.
