High School Class of 2019

I’m taking APUSH. I hate my teacher and he’s the only teacher for APUSH. There’s also a 50% chance I’ll get him next year for AP Govt

There’s a person who’s in my Bio class who will probably be val. She’s in a ton of ECs she doesn’t really like because her dad is making her do them, whereas I’m in all of my ECs because I like them. And I’m in a lot. People say “you can’t learn anything from X or Y” but:
Science Olympiad teaches me how to study and how to disagree
Coaching Science Olympiad teaches me how to lead and work with older AND younger people
Music Outreach teaches me how to perform
Chess Club teaches me how to lose
Science Bowl teaches me social skills
GSA teaches me how to be an activist
Linguistics Olympiad teaches me how to think critically
Climbing teaches me how to not completely fail at sports
IML teaches me, well, kind of nothing. If anything, that I’m in the lucky minority whose parents don’t force them into things.

TL;DR I’m a nerd by choice.

@awesomepolyglot Looks like you got it all figured out. That’s good!

But so far I’m in:
MUN- we had to wrap up early because we didn’t have the funding for a lot of things :frowning:
Leos- we do things to help the community like food drives and car washes

And I’ll do JV or V softball in the spring and next year I’ll start tennis (I didn’t know we even had a team until last minute!). My dad says quality, not quantity so he was even the person that helped me chose the clubs. Softball because I have been playing since I was like nine, MUN because politics is lifeee and who doesn’t love a good argumental essay ever now and then XD, Leo’s club because I’m a humanitarian and tennis because it’s fun. Sometimes I wish my school had a business club or DECA because I want major in business.

@melloswideworld you could maybe start a DECA if your school allows it. But thanks for thinking that I’ve got it all figured out. I try very hard to keep up the illusion.

I’m assuming that this is a safe space, so I’m going to try something.

@awesomepolyglot

Darnit, it didn’t show up as a notification. Never mind.

Hey, if anyone hasn’t already seen this site, it’s pretty helpful-has 519 charts for different colleges, helps determine where your GPA and SAT or ACT scores lie in regards to other accepted/rejected applicants. Helped reassure me that I won’t end up going to community college. Anyway, y’all should check it out. http://collegeapps.about.com/od/GPA-SAT-ACT-Graphs/

That site is the best <3

@awesomepolyglot Are you doing the North American Computational Linguistics Olympiad? I want to do it this year, and I haven’t met anyone on here doing it as well.

@Radiant Yeah, I’m doing it! If you need help with finding a location or practice tips, PM me. The problems were hard but fun this year, and it gets easier.

Man, I love Thanksgiving. We’re having more food today, but the turkey is going to be deep fried

@Radiant yup. PM me if you have questions.

hey fam @Giovuhnni @IrrationalPepsi

Yeah, but I’m too busy to start a DECA right now. I am finishing my book’s draft up because my agent has given me a deadline and my friends and I are starting a non-profit for refugees. It’s called Casalee. @awesomepolyglot Also, how was everyone’s thanksgiving?

And I kid you not about my book and the non-profit. People don’t believe me when I tell them or think that I am just another ivy league wanna be. -__- But in all honesty, the non-profit is because I have seen suffering in my life when I lived in Africa for the first six years of my life (I am mixed- I am half Italian and half African) and I know what it means to suffer. Also, I have been working on my book for the last year and I have finally become proud enough of it to try publishing.

@melloswideworld, that is really cool! You have my support.

This thread is progressing pretty fast. We have like half the posts of 2018 and it isn’t the end of the semester yet :stuck_out_tongue:

Go 2019, amirite?
