High School Class of 2019

Yeah, TWD is awesome haha. Those seem like good schedules. Quite frankly, most CC schedules are rigorous and advanced.

What clubs are you guys going to do? I’m definitely doing Model UN and I’ll probably do a bunch more. Are there any build-your-own-computer clubs or anything like it?

Also, I may be switching schools so my schedule might change.

I don’t know. I’m thinking about starting a math competition club next year or so.

You guys don’t have Mu Alpha Pheta?

I honestly don’t know any of the clubs at my future high school. I doubt there’s one for math competitions.

I want to go to NCCFM again, as I went for Math I this year. Didn’t place, as the top 11 place, but I suspect I was close. First place had a score of 21/25, while I had 16/25. I should have thought through the questions better, as looking back I’ve realized dumb mistakes. I wanna go back for Math II, Math III, and Precalculus, which would be three semesters in a row. It was fun.

All, I will be in grade 9 in the Fall 2015. I m considering which foreign language I should register. There are Latin, French, Spanish, Chinese. I tend to chose between French and Spanish, because Latin seems more helpful for language/literature major students (?) (I like STEM, plan to chose engineering or computer as my major), Chinese is too difficult. But about French and Spanish, I really wonder which I should take. Which language will be more useful for my major later at college? French or Spanish? Any advice from you guys? I knew some French, but nothing about Spanish yet. Thanks

Spanish is spreading faster and it is much more useful in America. I would choose Spanish, but if you already know a good amount of French stick with it.

Spanish is more useful haha, but you should take French. It really helps with English since about 30% of English is derived from French. I’m taking French I right now and it’s really easy because they share many of the same words.

As the others said, Spanish is more useful. I’ll be doing Spanish, but not until my sophomore year.

@FoodIsLife13 English does have a lot of its roots from French but its about the same with Spanish. English was derived from Romance languages: Spanish, French, Portuguese, (forget others)… I may also be taking Greek or Latin…

@OneExcitedDude English is a Germanic language, but it has a lot similarities to Romance languages because it was heavily influenced by French during the Norman conquest and invasion of England.

About which foreign language to take:

Everybody takes Spanish so the only disadvantage to that is that everybody else is doing it and it’s easy. You don’t stand out.

Latin is useful for understanding language, especially English, Romance languages, and technical jargon. It’s also great if you love history or any humanities subject really.

French is very international. Lots of African countries speak French, and there are French schools in the Middle East and I think even southeast Asia. Not to mention the Americas.

Chinese obviously has value, but it’s really hard for a westerner to learn I imagine.

I’m planning on being in theater/drama/improv (Theatre first trimester and Improv third trimester plus outside of school) speech & debate, Magazine of Literature and Arts/Newspaper (both simultaneously) philosophy club and journalism club.

I’m planning on holding positions in the Black Student Alliance club, and Young Democrats club.

I’m definitely continuing Model UN, and I’ll probably do Science Olympiad and Relay for Life.

I might continue Model United Nations, However the school is not sure if it will continue as a class :d

Well. I definitely don’t know any ECs lol. Gah, is it weird that I rewatch deaths from my favorite tv show? Like, I miss a character so bad ugh

Whos death are you watching??

I don’t know what ECs I’m doing. But I have TONS of options, which makes it way harder to choose. Bleh.

Haha wow I’m a sophomore and it feels like yesterday when I was in middle school. Everybody on here has really tough schedules for freshman year.
Whatever you do DON’T TAKE FRESHMAN YEAR AS A JOKE!!! There are kids in my grade who failed in first quarter PreCalc, AP Gov, and Chem who could have passed, but didn’t as a result of them not knowing how to study. Learn how to study!
But seriously, just have fun too. High school isn’t all about books and grades and school stuff. It is about meeting new people, joining clubs, playing sports, going to pep rallies, football games and Hoco. Before you know it you will be ranting on Class of 2021’s forum with all these tips and suggestions. Just like me lol.
