High School Contact

Yale contacted my high school to verify my self-reported AP scores last week. Is this a good omen for the 15th?

How many did you self-report?

who knows? But hopefully it's a good sign :)

It might be...
a)random check
b)your scores are sooo good they need to verify it
c)your scores don't match the rest of your app.

imo

At least you know they actually read it... and not in the big, "Oh, we don't have enough time to read them all so let's defer them" pile.

It was just three 5s. My transcript and test scores are very strong, so it does not look out of place in the context of my app.

Hmmm... Interesting, can you provide more details, such as what the classes were, etc., were they self studied and such?

If they were just common AP's that your school offers, etc., looks like you probably got in.

They were common aps offered at my school that I took Spring of my Junior year.

Probably just a random check then

When did they contact? Was it recently or a while ago?

If it was recently, it means that they're still reading your app which means good things for the 15th.

It was at the beginning of last week.

This is very interesting. The AOs went into committee on the 1st of December, right?

how do you know thye checked?
did your counselor tell you?

Tell me if I’m off-base here, because I realize I am very biased given that this happened to me.

First of all, how could this be a random check? I keep hearing on CC how disorganized the admissions office is due to the time constraints. Why would they take the time 2 weeks before decisions come out to random check a strong applicant?

Second, like most of us on CC, I am in that region between being accepted and deferred. If I was going to be deferred, wouldn't they have all the time in the world to verify my scores later on? If I was going to be rejected (don't think it's possible, but for the sake of argument), they wouldn't care what my AP scores were.

On the other hand, if I am going to be accepted, why not wait and ask for me to send them an official report from collegeboard rather than unofficially verifying my scores through the school?

^ Cocky much?

same question: how d you know they checked?

actually i take back my previous statement. if you were accepted, they didn't have to take time to check on your 3 ap scores... it just wouldn't make sense because a) that's not that many, and b) they can just check when you matriculate in the fall.

Possibly a random check, did you lie a lot or something through the rest of your app?

first of all, the random spot check can be caused by a discrepancy what you said and what someone wrote about you.

I'd calm down and wait for the admissions results.

and don't bank on anything. Nobody can say you'll get accepted, or even deferred.

I agree. I don't think it would make much sense for admissions officers to take time out of their already crazy schedules to pick out a random file and verify scores.

First of all, how would they know if you were going to be deferred if they didn't verify your scores? Maybe they were still discussing your file and needed to make sure. Secondly, I wouldn't go so far as to say that your being rejected isn't possible. While you may not think such an outcome is likely, it's impossible with a school like Yale to be absolutely positive that you'll get it, no matter what your scores or ECs are.

That doesn't even make sense. Why would they wait until after you were accepted to check your scores? Your scores would probably help you get admitted; there would be no point checking them after you were accepted.

eh, collegehope2, that's a dangerous attitude :/ just cross your fingers and wait for the 15th, dude.
