Do you have closer bonds with your high school friends or college friends?
I’m only a second semester freshman, but I’m still missing my HS friends like crazy… I’ve had the same best friends for the past 6-13 years.
Thank you! I thought I was the only one. The friends that I met as a freshman in high school are still the ones I’m closest with today. My college friends are great too, but…it just takes time, I guess.
Edited to add that I’m also a second semester (quarter, technically) freshman.
I came back to college after being out of high school for about 7 years. What I found through those 7 years though is that my high school friends almost all gradually became “good acquaintances” rather than the close friends that many of them had been. Most people rarely hang onto to their high school friends for too long after high school. Some certainly do, but most of us end up just having a few friends from high school that end up being really good friends still after high school.
I gave up everyone from high school except for my best friend. Don’t get me wrong, I’d still say hi if I saw them back home and we’d probably share a great conversation, but they don’t know my life post-HS and I don’t care to know the details of theirs. My best friend and I meet up every break, text very often, and are almost constantly up-to-date on each other’s lives. I consider it a good balance, leaving me with plenty of focus on my new friends, but I still have someone who’s not here and will always take my side, haha!
I don’t keep in regular contact with anyone from high school anymore, as a junior. If I see someone from high school while I’m on campus, I’ll still say hi and possibly chat with them for a few minutes. But besides being Facebook friends, none of us keep in touch much.
There’s one person I still keep in contact with who I technically didn’t go to high school with; we went to elementary and middle school together, but I moved before we were both in high school. I still keep in fairly regular contact with her and her family because I’ve known them for so long.
I don’t know what to say. In my high school friends are stuck. They barely remember you after a year of no talk. So I would that college friends are real friends.
