I'm currently a college freshman who will be applying for transfers to competitive schools (ex:Wash.U in St. Louis, Emory, Columbia,...). However I really slacked off my senior year in high school and my second semester grades dropped noticeably. I don't remember all my grades but the lowest grade I received was a D for AP Biology during the fourth quarter. Do admissions offices care a lot about senior year or is it less significant (due to senioritis) ?

I'm wondering the same exact thing. My grades weren't nearly as bad, but I started off the year with all A's and got an end of the year grade of mostly B's.

if anything, your senior year will matter the most to colleges as it is the best indicator of college performance (weak hs freshman performances may be overlooked however)...they like to see an upward trend, not a downward one

you've been at college for what? 3 weeks? my advice to you is to learn to like the college that youre at

fair enough, but if my first half of senior year grades were all A's, 1 B and my final grades for the courses were 4 B's, and 2 A's, is that really bad?

I'm definitely going to try it out for a bit but as of right now I think I would be happier at another school.
Anyways, mfd3q, i think high school transcripts only show the final grades for each year, not semester grades.

depends on your school, i know mine only gave the full year

mfd-are you senior scores that bad? absolutely not, they are respectable...but are they that good? nyu will be pretty competitive

You are killing my vibe nutmuffin.....

I THINK my school sends semester grades but I'm not sure. Here's the catch though, I'm applying to Northwestern as a transfer and I did get accepted when I applied as a transfer, so my grades up until the second half of senior year were clearly good enough to get in. soooo now that I'm applying for a transfer, wouldnt you say I'm in a better spot than most being that since I've already been accepted thats an omen my high school record is "exemplary"? and since high school record is what is looked highly upon for ffresj,am year transfers, despite I guess are senior year grades, I was already deemed good enough to go there as a freshman.

that came across pretty cocky, my apologies I hate it when people are like that on this site, but basically I just want to have consolence about my HS grades haha

do you mean you got accepted as a freshman?
if you already got accepted before you probably have a very good chance of getting accepted for transfer and if your school sends semester grades then it should be to your benefit. oh and condolences about your senior year grades haha :)

whoops yes thats what I meant, like I got my acceptance letter when I was a senior in high school to begin attending Northwestern as a freshman. for some reason I always have trouble wording that. I just pray my majority of B's senior year don't matter THAT much. It's not like I completed bombed or nething, I just had a dip i would say haha
