Cool! Anyone starting a FB group?

Btw here are my stats:
Rank: top 2% (regular public school)
PSAT: 230
Science Olympiad regional medals
Math team stuff (AIME qualifier)
Decent essays
Probably good recs

I honestly didn’t list a single EC in my essays or otherwise. Not a good idea in hindsight, but it worked out well!

Yeah; so far this is the only program I’ve gotten into! I also applied to Rockefeller SRP and BU RISE, but I’m definitely going to HSHSP. See you all there!

Got my acceptance e-mail as well today!

I would definitely listen to @jonthom99 when he says not to worry if you have no research experience when applying, I haven’t done any formal research either (outside of my high school’s research program) and made out just fine. I’d advise to just try and have a unique and interesting voice in the essays while still showing a strong interest in science/engineering/mathematics; basically, set yourself apart from the crowd in some respect, be that through your accomplishments or the personality you communicate.

Looking forwards to meeting my fellow 2014 HSHSPers!

i agree with @kb46261 and @jonthom99. I didn’t have any research either. Just decent scores and interesting essays

I didn’t get in :(

rejected lmao. whatever, people who didn’t make hshsp end up in MIT,Stanford, and Wharton (in our school at least) and some people who made it got rejected from every ivy except Dartmouth.
To people who got accepted, congrats, you guys are pretty much one of the smartest guys in the whole country! and to people who didn’t, like me, lets all hope for a better future haha

I made a FB group so PM me for the link if you get in!

I got in!
However, I also got accepted into the Simons Summer Research Program, and am having trouble deciding on which one to attend.
Anyone have any advice?

wow that’s tough… Both are really good… I think Simons has slightly more Siemens/Intel winners though, so if thats what you’re aiming for, choose simons. If you’re doing it just for college (which I hope you aren’t), you should be fine either way since you’re obviously a strong applicant if you got into both programs.

thanks @aops100!
Any ideas as to the experience as a whole in both programs? I’ve heard lots of good things about HSHSP, but don’t really know much about Simons.

HSHSP seems like lots of fun and a great experience, but from what I can tell, people have said similar things about Simons and agree that Simons is more prestigious & has “better quality research.” Idk what is meant by that but apparently, Simons is the 2nd best research program in the country (next to RSI). I was rejected from Simons, but if I were you I would probably choose Simons (although it would be great to meet you at HSHSP!). It’s also worth mentioning that around half the people were Intel and/or Siemens Semifinalist/Finalists. I’m not 100% sure but I think Simons costs less too.

so 6 out of 24 accepted were from CC? that’s crazy representation right there.

Well, a lot of people who know about these programs find out from CC, so it makes sense. It’s also possible that there are more if all the acceptances haven’t been sent out yet.

well I haven’t gotten my email yet…awk…anyone else? is there a possibility they lost my application, or threw it into the fire to warm themselves up during the cold winter…

Yeah I actually didn’t get anything yet…and I feel like at least half the acceptances have been handed out at this point due to the fact that we just had 6 from CC accepted. Don’t know if I’m supposed to be happy that I wasn’t rejected, or worried.

You’ll probably find out soon

sheesh I am nervous, should I contact them a week from now if I haven’t heard back?

I also haven’t gotten anything yet so we’re in the same boat! It seems like she’s releasing a few decisions each day, so who knows…maybe we’ll find out tomorrow. and hopefully good news too! good luck :)
