My daughter took English 1A at a local community college (she is a junior in high school). She received a B+, which we did not report to her high school. She wants to re-take English 1A at a different community college, and plans to get an A. Can we report just the A next year when she applies to UC, or do the community colleges all report grades to the UCs?
All college courses and grades must be reported on the UC application. It would not be surprising if other colleges have similar requirements for applicants.
Repeating a B+ grade looks like obvious grade-grubbing, and colleges’ GPA calculation policies are often designed to make that ineffective.
UCs will disregard the second grade of a repeated course if the first grade was passing (C or higher).

Note that UC-transferable college courses taken while in high school are counted as honors for an extra grade point for frosh applicants.

Bottom line: it is better for her to move on and take English 1B rather than wasting her time taking English 1A again.
You must report all CC grades on the UC app, and only D or F grades can be retaken.
Agree to the above. At time of applying , you need to self-report courses and grades from high school and any colleges. If admitted, you submit final transcripts, including those from any community colleges attended, after finishing high school, and if the transcripts differ from the self-reported courses in any material way, your admisison will be withdrawn. For any courses that could be considered a-g courses, you can retake a D or F and use the new, better grade as the one that will control, but if you retake a course in which you received a C or higher, the retake will be ignored for the purpose of determining admission.
