High School Student Attending College Class

So, I am a high school student involved in orchestra there, but I also take a language class at the local university. Sadly, I have a HUGE honor orchestra festival (one that I’ve worked all year to participate in) the same day as a 100 point exam in the language class! My professor doesn’t allow make-ups on unexcused absences, and I’ve read the absence guidelines on the college site. They’re too vague. I don’t know how to go about getting this day excused, or if I should just drop the language course all together if I can’t get this worked out. Thanks.

It is good that you were able to see this conflict of schedules now. Maybe talk to the professor and explain your circumstances. Maybe do well in the class to be able to not take the exam and still pass (it sounds like its very heavily weighted though).
You probably don’t want to hear this, but I would drop the class (if I still could without penalty) if it was interfering with something I enjoy. You have the rest of your high school days to take college classes and the rest of your college days as well.

Since ’ an event where you’re representing your high school, you should approach the dean of the university (or college the class is a part of) and get it approved as an excused absence. Email the dean explaining your situation, ask about what the procedure is, and be prepared to submit documentation. Your high school orchestra director may have to submit a letter on your behalf to verify your conflict and excuse you from class, so I would give them a heads up about the situation as well.

Thanks for replying guys! I was able to email my prof, and she told me that I would just need a letter from my orchestra director explaining and she would let me reschedule the exam! What a relief!
