High school "unofficial" internship?

Hi, I recently got an internship at a university physical chemistry lab (i'm a rising senior). However, I'm an international student on a visa (F-2), and I was just informed today that federal law restricts F-2s from getting an internship of any kind... this made me pretty sad and disappointed because I really wanted an internship here. The lab group told me that I could help out without being physically in the lab, programming and dealing with various things that does not require me to go to the lab.

Is this something worth putting in my resume? (I'm doing it purely for experience and for my own benefit, by the way. I don't mind if it doesn't go on the resume but I am just wondering).

It can as long as you don’t call it an internship. Just describe it as an experience. Make sure you run any essay you write about it by the University. They can make sure everything on you essay is solid and will most likely be willing to write you a good recommendation. (Working at a University lab is always awesome on an app.)
