The guy i know has been training under his black belt parents from the age of two.

A girl that goes to high school at the top private in Hawaii is swimming for the Philippines.

well, for example
professional gymnasts have joint problems as they get older
from overflexibility and other stuff arthritis is common
i already have bad wrists and weak ankles and i'm not even a professional gymnast!!

my dad was a gymnast in highschool and he has had 2 knee surgeries

and usually people that have alot of muscle mass get fat as they grow older because that muscle deteriorates
ever experienced loss of muscle strength?
a professional weightlifter can't sustain the same muscle bulk into his 50's etc even 40's

even sports like running can cause knee problems

I can see it now

Significant Extracurriculars
- won 3 gold medals in the 2008 Olympics

EatBreathMath,

But can you seriously say that you wouldn't want to compete in the olympics? These people give up everything for what they do and the chance to be in the olympics would outbeat anything that you've accomplished so far.

well, no, i am not that avid of a sports person
i see how it is for some people, but not for me
of course, i absolutely admire olympic athletes and am amazed by how much they train
but ya know, i'd rather excel in academics
like win a nobel prize or something
olympic athletes don't have school as their first priority
their sport is their first priority, majority are homeschooled
and they wouldn't have time to make it into the ivy league
they would be spending all their time training for competitions

you have no idea how much they give up just to focus on their sport

not even God can have 3 olympic gold medals
and perfect grades/SAT scores/etc..
heck it's even extremely rare for some countries to win 3 gold medals, let alone a single person

time is a big issue

EatBreathMath- Shawn Johnson is 16.

(You can't compete in olympic gymnastics until you're 16 (by December 31st of the year)).

And not just "professional" gymnasts have joint problems. Pretty much all of us who've competed beyond compulsories have some sort of weak area...
Also, I don't think the arthritis is from overflexibility- it's from the pressure strain you put on your body doing 'intense' skills.

yeah but contortionists also develop joint problems!!

Wth ?

^are you lost?

^ Are you? God could have 3 billion olympic gold medals if he wanted, and besides, I was actually being sarcastic in the "I can see it now..." post. Come on.

no, I am not lost
i was trying to make a point
about how there is not enough time for training toward an olympic gold medal and academics
sheesh
well i don't see God competing in the olympics

chuck norris can win every gold medal in the olympics

Chuck Norris can dissolve one cup of sugar in one teaspoon of water.

I really hate Chuck Norris. It got old like in the 90s.

Lol I thought mine was pretty clever :

Lol, I just meant in general.

Haha I know :] Generally I hate Chuck Norris jokes too, but I couldn't resist putting in my own ;]

Won the Bronze and heading for Duke next week. The other medalists where from Yale and Notr Dame, albeit one had already graduated, and the other took time off from school.
