High schoolers in the Olympics?

Yeah some guy who does like sledding or something from my school.

yes, but we must assess the probability of being in a situation similar to Becca Ward's
she definately has a hook when she applies for prestigious colleges
but how many people who go to prestigious colleges are like her? not that many
majority are not olympic athletes and that is perfectly fine
and the chances of success in a certain sport is fickle
not to mention that training requires private lessons, which can be pretty expensive
that money can be channeled toward summer programs, research, etc

All elite level gymnasts I've known were in the top 10% of their class, taking a lot of ap classes as well.

We have an alum from our highschool who is in the Olympics this year...she was on our school's swim team (way before I entered the HS).

lol at all the olympian bashing going on in this thread.

There are a bunch of ivy leaguers in different events already in the olympics...one can assume they had pretty high SAT/ACT scores...

There's one girl in my grade who's a swimmer and trains alongside with and is under the same schedule (2 hours in the morning, 2.5 hours after school) for training as two other girls who got Olympic swim trials.
She thought that Asia was a country (I honestly think she was barely cognizant when she said that though) and sucks at spelling. She definitely has intelligence, but as EatBreathMath assumed, she just doesn't have enough time to display that intelligence through SATs, grades, academic competitions, etc. etc. or learn things outside of school because she's always in the pool.
But I still think that there must definitely be people out there who can train like Olympians and still get good grades and all of that crap.

lilygraces: "my cousin is an ice dancer in the Winter Olympics he and his partner won gold for the US 2 years ago."

Not possible. Navka/Kastomarov (Russia) won gold. Belbin/Agosto won silver.

A wrestler that just graduated from my high school is in the Olympics.

GUYS!! did u read fat envelope frenzy? Lisa wang was the top american rhythmic gymnast and she got into Yale.

One of my sister's best friends from high school is supposed to be running. I think her husband qualified, too.

How does that support the argument that Olympians are smart? Lolz

awaits flames

^Oh, please, don't start that argument.

This Olympic silver medalist moved to my town and opened a gym. That's all I've got. I don't think my high school's ever produced an Olympic-caliber athlete.

And I believe that **many/b of the athletes at the Olympics are academically driven as well as athletically driven. They commit an incredible amount of their time to training, but that doesn't necessarily prevent them from devoting a great deal of effort to their studies. And even if they aren't 4.0, 2400 students, they are prime candidates for athletic scholarships.

A young woman S2 went to middle school with made the Olympic swimming trials as a soph in HS this year.

As I saw the three young US women who won medals in saber on the podium and the announcers said where they were attending college/had just graduated from, it made me want to get on CC and holler! Take that, you nay-sayers about student athletes!

FYI TO ALL CCER'S WHO DON'T THINK THAT THESE OLYMPIANS ARE SMART! The girls fencing bronze medalist is gonna be a freshman at duke and the silver medalist graduated from yale. there are many olympians like this.

^Yeah! See post # #40.

Like I said, this doesn't prove anything. D:

They are smart at what they do. Intelligence is not just academics.

^Win, /thread.

How does that support the argument that Olympians are smart? Lolz

I wasn't arguing that olympians are smart. I mentioned the whole lisa wang thing because somebody earlier asked what it would be like to have Olympian athlete on their app. I didn't even know there was an argument about olympians being smart on this thread.....
