I went from a 29 (Dec '09) to a 32 (Feb '11). I did a little bit of prep, but not as much as I wanted to. I basically went through the English and part of the math portion in Barron’s. My math score gained 5 points!

Same here khh594.
I got a 27 and I’m trying to get a 32 come summer.

I’m happy my composite as it is…a 33 is more than enough to get in to UIUC engineering…I just want to get my math subscore up, it was only a 30. I really could care less if i get a higher composite.

23, first practice test at sophomore end in the summer. was frustated that day if that counts. 31 on February. possibly a 34 in April.

^ What did you do to improve? I am in a similar situation.

If you go to school and work hard to understand concepts and what you read (the key process of improving your logic), your ACT score should naturally go up.

25 first time I took the ACT lol in June of junior year. Didn’t even know what it was and had to read all the directions for the english test because it looked different than the SAT. Got a 23 on the science and 25 on the english haha. Then I got a 34 senior year. I went from a 23 science to a 34 science and my best english score is now 35. :)

oh sorry RowlandCloud, just saw your message. PM me with your subsection scores and overall composite scores, way easier to help that way. If you are smart like get u know decent grades (A’s with couple B’s), It is very easy to get into 30s range.

Anon9522, mind if I ask for your help as well?
Also anybody know good grammar books over verb tenses as I have noticed that is an area I mainly miss questions in?

@Larentia sure. Just PM me. Include stuff I mentioned in the above post.

^ I just PM you.

22 Composite (Jun 2010)
23 English
24 Math
20 Reading
22 Science

---------->

27 Composite (Dec 2010)

29 English
27 Math
30 Reading
20 Science <_<

Hoping to get a 32 this April…

^How did you improve your reading 10points in 6 months

I have a 20 in reading lol

I got a 22 beginning my junior year and then end of my junior year I got a 30!!! Went up 8 points!!!

Little hint for reading…read only 3 of the 4 reading passages throughly…very throughly… answer every single question right with 3 passages u will at least score a 29…with extra time…briefly read and answer the last passage if possible!!! So spend a lot of time on 3 of the 4 passages!! Guarentee this works!! I got a 30 on reading and previously had a 23!!
hope this helps!!

^That is a pretty good tip. I will try it on a practice test.

You’re given 8 minutes and 40 seconds per passage (35/4). Use about 6 minutes to read and understand the passage and about 2 minutes and 40 seconds to answer the questions.
If you don’t know an question, guess on it and forget about it. Time is crucial for this part of the ACT.
Asides from the strategy, I also started reading a lot to help build my reading speed.

Thx for the reply

anyone else?

You will need to pray more than twice a night to go from a 22 to a 32 in less than a years time span.

Well, not sure if this counts, but I took a practice test the day before the test and I scored 24 on the Science and a 23 on the Reading. On the test, I ended up scoring a 36 on Science and 32 on Reading.
