Hipster Colleges by a beach?

College so far is all scary. Numbers, location, major... Basically I am looking for somewhere with a hipster, artsy vibe, environmentally involved, by a beach BUT not in Florida or California, and has majors in journalism/writing and either a major or minor in anthropology.

So far I like Warren Wilson but its not by a beach, I love UNC Wilmington but my majors aren't looking too hot. Something small, but involved. Let me know what you guys think!!
Thanks so much (:

I know you said not in Florida, but New College of Florida has a major in Anthro, is much more on the hipster side, and is close to many beaches. But it’s in Florida…

College of Charleston?
I’m not too familiar with that area so I don’t know what the beach situation is like but it has a major in Anthro and a creative writing program. I don’t think it’s very hipster though.

What are you reasons for excluding Cali and Florida? Those are the two major beach states…

California and Florida are too mainstream, man.

OP might like to check out places in western Oregon and Washington state. Portland’s still a hipster haven, or so I’m told.

Jph093 i would consider Florida, but… Don’t laugh, they’re so mainstream. Haha everyone expects people to go there. I love the thought of Berkley but I am from Pennsylvania so I don’t want to go to the opposite side of the country. I would consider Florida because my mom may be moving to Athens, Georgia.

I do like Charleston!! I just wish it was more hipster

UCSC might be a candidate, but it is in California and is expensive for OOS.

Evergreen State might be a candidate. It is in Washington.

If the OP wants beaches that are nice and warm with white sand, the pacific northwest is not the place to go. If not, then check out Reed and Evergreen State. Easily the two most hipster schools out there.
