Hispanic (Junior) seeking scholarship opportunities

hi everybody im pretty new to this site, and i have a couple questions. i just started my junior year and im looking for some guidance on what i should be doing to be a competitive applicant in top colleges, especially because my high school is pretty competitive. I will be taking the PSATs and SATs soon (hoping for NHRP/NMSQT recognition). Besides a rigorous course load (6 total ap's), 4.0 gpa (uw), volunteering, etc, all of which i have, what can i do to have an even better edge in the admissions process. I am interested in the sciences.

I've heard of the ventures scholarship, but when am i eligible to apply? the website doesn't really specify.

Also, are there other things (summer internships, junior scholarships, science opportunities, or even essay contests) i can do? I'm studying for USABO, but what else can i do during the year? Our school has cut many honor societies so im looking for some "bulk," for lack of a better word, to add to an app.

thanks for any help!

Go over to the Hispanic Student forum under speciality admissions for more info on your question. Such info has already been posted. With respect to summer programs look under summer programs listed near the bottom of the first page for the forums. If you like science then look at the COSMOS program.

^^^done ;).

About Ventures, you can apply as soon as you’ve taken one of the tests they list and get a qualifying score.

The best place to start is the Resource sticky thread, it includes a link to this thread about enrichment opportunities:

Practice for the PSAT.

Also take the SAT and ACT next year.
