So I've been reading the forums and I see it mentioned that Tufts' science and math programs are pretty strong. I was wondering how their history, econ, and polisci depts are, since those are the areas I'm really interested in. Anyone here majoring in these areas that can help me? Or who took classes in these depts, for that matter?

They're very strong. Tufts' IR department is very renowned and it's an interdisciplinary based precisely on the departments you mentioned. There are MacArthur Scholars ("Genius Grant" recipients), Pulitzer Prize winners, etc. in all those departments. Tufts is a great fit if you're interested in polici/history/econ.

I would say the Poli Sci department is by far one of the strongest on campus. History is really good, though I've only taken one history class. Not all the Econ professors are amazing, but if you do research and find out who's good, then sign up for their classes, you should really enjoy your classroom experience. One of my econ profs was a Fletcher professor (probably doing the department a favor, they were really low on Macro profs), another graduated from Harvard Law and handed me a legal research job. I also waited two semesters to take Economics Statistics (a requirement for the Econ major) with one of the three professors teaching it, and he was absolutely worth it. Awesome lecturer, managed to get things across really clearly and make a 150-person lecture laugh.

History, Econ, and Poly Sci are the core parts of Tufts' stellar IR program. So yeah, they're good. Bigger standouts than Math and Science, it seems to me.

History is one of the best departments of Tufts. I feel it is extremely underrated. I've taken a few history classes, and all of them have been mindblowing.
I'm a Quant Ec major and I agree with the above posters who say that there are certain professors you have to wait for. Some of the most renowned profs in the dept don't really teach lower div classes so many people don't get to know them. If you stick around, you're bound to have a professor/class that will leave memories.
PolSci speaks for itself. Prolly the core of the very core of the intl relations program, hence STELLAR.
