History

So, I'm applying to a lot of out of state private universities, but also to a couple public universities in Florida. Until recently, I was pretty sure that FSU was my number one in-state option, for pretty much guaranteed admission into their honors program and good study abroad opportunities. But then, I saw this: Office of the University Registrar

I will most likely be a History major, and this huge list of history courses is extremely appealing (haha, I've read through all the descriptions). So, are there any UF History majors here? How do you like it?

I would be applying as a freshman, though I will have my AA from dual enrollment. I literally would not have enough class slots to take all the history classes I want to, haha. I would want to do honors in the major.

Given that there is a maximum of three history courses a semester, I am also interested in the following: Major: International Affairs (Interdisciplinary Studies), Minors: European Union Studies; International Development and Humanitarian Assistance. Anyone have any experience with these?

I suppose you already saw this: [FSU General Bulletin](<a href=“FSU Registrar | Error 404 page not found”>FSU Registrar | Error 404 page not found)

Well, I already know a lot about FSU’s History program (I am applying there, among many other schools), so I wanted to know more about UF’s, which I recently looked into. I had seen a list like that somewhere, but thanks.

I’m a history major, a freshman mind you but already I’ve gotten tons of emails from the department’s professors, including a study abroad program for history students over Thanksgiving in Munich.

That sounds interesting. What made you choose UF over other schools you could have potentially attended? Anything specific to your major?

No, not really. I mean honestly if you plan to go to grad school your undergrad isn’t that important at all. If you live in Florida it’s a lot smarter to just stay in state for tuition and scholarship purposes. Unless your rich or you can get lots of scholarships I’d really suggest staying here, and if you decide to stay in state you have to think of all aspects of college. History is a really good and broad major so you can pretty much go anywhere and have a good education. For me, I chose UF because it had the experience and atmosphere I wanted. All the other Florida state schools were situated in big cities, like the schools were placed in a city whereas Gainesville was placed in UF, it’s an actual college town, and it’s really awesome. What exactly do you want to do as a history major? I hope this helps a little!
