So my housing offer is for a triple in Hitch Suites. What are the suites like? Are they really as antisocial as everyone makes them out to be? Would it be worth it to try switching, or should I stick with the suite?

I got the same, Hitch triple I was also wondering the same, thanks for posting this haha.

I got into Hitch Suites and a triple, but i’m gonna stick with my offer.

i got into Hitch Suites, too! i’m scared i won’t make friends as well :T

Small world! I got a triple in Hitch, too. I think it’ll be awesome having our own bathroom and living room; however, will it be antisocial? That’s what I’m afraid of…

It’s more antisocial than plazas/halls, but you definitely will get to know your suitemates and become best friends. But if you have a friend who is living in a plaza/hall, you can just go their if you want some social atmosphere. I personally prefer suites more because the overall room size is larger (and plus living room and bathroom!). Moreover it is easier to focus on your studies.
Usually only like 1% of the freshmen get suites (extremely rare), but I guess this year is a bit different…

^umm…a lot of freshman do happen to get placed in suites. it is definitely not extremely rare. athletes usually are placed in them first, then any 2nd+ years, then opens up for random assignment to first years. typically not that many decide to stay there in 2nd year.

Hitch suites… I got put there freshman year. I had a really crappy lottery number, and it was one of my last choices.
True, the rooms are a lot roomier, especially since what were designed to be doubles in the halls have been crammed into triples.
Shared bathroom, well, you only get 1 toilet and 1 shower. Sharing with 5 other people can be annoying if someone clogs it, or takes a long time. Unlike the halls where there are many toilets and showers, so if one is taken you can probably always use a different one, or go downstairs/upstairs.
Hitch is also the furthest walk from campus, situated way out beyond hedrick. You will get plenty of exercise clilmbing those steps every day, but it makes returning to your dorm mid-day all that much harder.

The suites are definitely not as social, since there is no need to be, and you see your neighbors a lot less. There is also no dining hall so you have to go to one of the halls (closest is hedrick which was never a really popular one) or central dining areas.

Htich is pretty old and originally designed to house athletes for some olympics I believe.

You will either come to love or hate your roommates. =)

Another draw back is there is no central study lounge so you will have to use the ones in the halls, where of course if you are lazy will make it more difficult. Gotta get dressed to make the trip, pack up your stuff, bring your ID, etc, etc. As opposed to just wandering down in your slippers, napping on the couch between stints of studying and quickly grabbing something from your room.

There are some benefits to the suites, but honestly I can’t seem to think of any at this point. It was also a while ago that I lived in Hitch so things may be different now.

Oh, but if you like to party hard, it used to be that every friday night there would be crazy parties (the athletes of course!) with plenty of alcohol. Saturday morning, the suites would always be littered with half-filled plastic cups of questionable liquids. Quite a mess actually. If I had to do it all over again, I would have gone for a residence hall, they often have a lot more group activities, you bump into people a lot more often and there is definitely more of a social atmosphere which is great for first year students. Hitch is great if you’re like to have your car near you in the parking lot (which is right in front of the suites), and would like to easily drive home every weekend.

I pretty much just hung out with some friends in the halls or sunset 90% of the time, only to come back to the suites to sleep, or find my roommates plastered across the floor from some wild party they had.

I got Hitch triple as well. As far as being anti-social, it will be what we make it. I’m sure there are many people on hitch looking to make new friends.
