Hi. I'm an international student in China. I got admission offers from HKU (bachelor of arts) and HKUST(Global China Studies). But im not sure which one I should go. If I go to HKU, i'll probably major in philosophy and international relations/business. Upon graduation as an undergraduate, I want to continue my study in a good law school (not decided where to go). My current career goal is corporate lawyer.

Please help me decide if I should go to HKU or HKUST!

hku better for non-math related fields, but i dont think you will like the campus etc. I sure didn’t. But there are plenty of mainland students there for you to mingle with, the locals wont be too accepting tho :/

Thx SO MUCH!!! I thought no one would reply to my question.
Based on your comment, I see you are studying at HKUST. Can you tell me sth. about the Global China Studies program? Since it started 2 yrs ago, i don’t hav much info about it…

I am international student who also got accepted into HKUST Global China Studies program. I also applied for Social Sciences and Arts at HKU, and I am still waiting for a reply from them.

In my understanding, HKU is a bit more recognised abroad than HKUST. They also have larger Arts and Social Sciences departments. HKUST might have an edge in the Business and Technical fields, however. They are both good schools, so there is probably no wrong choice.

I am interested in hearing other students opinions.

As for reputation, as i said before anything not-math related HKU has the edge.

Business, econ, engineering, pure sciences, pure biology or bio-chem HKUST is far superior. And reputation wise too, hkust will hav an edge in those fields.

@claudius im glad my reply helped best of luck

Are there any other students here who got accepted, or are enrolled to HKUST’s Global China Studies program? Or perhaps students enrolled to Arts/SocS at HKU? If so, would you care to share your opinion?

Hi…I am also an International student who applied for HKU’S BSocsci as first choice…They are
processing the applications at full speed now, so u will receive your results anytime soon…Don’t panic and My application is still ‘under consideration’ only…Would you mind sharing your stats with me and Oh, Please be in touch and let me know about any update from your end buddy :)

Hello! I’m from Canada.
I am a 1st year student and will be a 2nd year student in the fall.
I am in the faculty of SocSci and HKU and i was also accepted in the Global Studies program at HKUST.

I also really didn’t know much about the program at UST, and since its a UST school i decided to go to HKU.

Pros of HKU: more people, location

let me know if you have any questions…wrote this in a rush

Hi. Since you are in HKU, you must know a lot about it! I heard that the HKU curriculum is pretty tough, and it’s hard to get above 3.0 (or so rumored). How hard/easy is your social science course?
Also, do you get leisure time in HKU? it seems almost impossible to both play hard and work hard… only work hard. No social life?
Finally, how’s the dorm? which dorm are you at? and which one would you recommend for the internaitonal students?

I went to a summer course at HKUST and i can attest that the dorms are ridiculously bad.

All courses in the big three unis (HKU, HKUST, CUHK) are tough as hell because the local students are really smart. So if you want to come here, be prepared to work. But at the same time, its the easiest place ive been in the world to have good fun. Nightlife is easy to get to and from, hundreds if not thousands of possible activities nearby if you just look (not including university-provided ones) and since the transport system is possibly the most efficient and well connected in the world, the easiest country to travel around in.

I would know, Ive lived here 10 years as a non-local and ive visited America, singapore, malaysia, india, china. Hk tops all. You could argue but im slightly biased but i had received offers from top UK schools too (not oxbridge or imperial) but i chose to stay here. So take your pick :P

I see. which school did you go eventually? hku or hkust? did you get scholarship offer, especially from hkust (cuz i think i might go there)? what is the scholarship based on in your opinion?

I am a student of Grade 12 studying in the All India Board and have a predicted score 0f 92% with very little extra curricular. I have a GPA of 9.4 in Grade 10 and have recently applied to HKUST and was wondering when would i get to know if I am in or not. Moreover, if anyone has an idea about the acceptance rate of HKUST could you please tell me what my chances are?

me too, i have applied as early round applicant for engineering in HKUST but i havent got any offer until now. what should i do? i really wish i could study there T.T

@SL88888, it must be in process. just keep calm. there’s nothing more to be done from your side, right? @vedant5555, i suggest you apply to City University of Hong Kong. their extracurricular requirements are lower than hku and hkust, if extracurriculars are your concern. i believe its worth a try.

Hi! I am from India! I got an offer from the HKUST Business school for BBA along with a conditional scholarship! Im really confused as to whether i should take it. Though its considered really good academically, i wanted to know what is the popularity of the university in the US. Im planning to pursure my Masters in the U.S , so do you think that HKUST would be a good school to help me secure a place in a top American Business School for MBA maybe? Also, how competitive is the Business School in HKUST? And how strong is the international community? I need to decide in 2 days, so if you people could be a little quick, i would really appreciate it! Thank you :)
