Hi all,

hey Adriekkk
what is it that you want to know about,be more specific!
btw do you mind sharing your stats and background?

Hi

I also applied for HKU and HKUST Master programmes in Economics. I haven’t yet decided if I want to apply to CityU yet. I did apply to HKU last year but didn’t get in, however I didn’t have an academic referee that time, whilst this time I do.

My background is probably a little different to the typical applicants, I’ve completed my undergrad in 2008 and since been working. I recently completed a graduate certificate in economics hence why I have an academic referee now. Also I am from Australia.

I am curious if you guys have any preference about which programme you would go to if you received an offer from all of them and why?

Best of luck with everyone applications!

Hi

I have submitted application for Msc in IT and CS at hkust and hku respectively.
Does anybody have more information or experience(s) regarding admission at these universities.

Stats
Indian
B.tech in computer science 76.1%
Senior secondary 91.4%
2 years full time work experience
2.5 years part time work ex alongside graduation
2 acad LOR and 1 work LOR
Not given GRE
Have proof of english language letter from graduation school

From what I understand
HKU MSc Econ is not good, the program is just repeating UG Econ courses and the admission rate to reputable PhD program is low
while HKUST and CityU econ are stepping stone for econ PhD and HKUST econ dep is more reputable worldwide.

Hi Drizzt

Thanks for that info, curious to know how you get that impression. Is it based on their syllabus ? From numerous other threads I read, people recommend either HKUST or HKU. One of the appealling prospects of HKU for myself is the ability to choose one or two MBA units. From my perspective as someone with 4 years work experience it seems like a good deal to get technical training in economics and picking up one or two management or leadership units from an MBA.

But that is my unique perspective, where I haven’t put much thought into doing a PhD.

Hi,

I have heard several opinions about those 3 universities, and it seems hkust is by far the best. HKU has a very good reputation overall as a university and cityu is really coming up!
Feardbear, I am from Belgium (Europe) and I have no work experience yet.
Do you have any idea when to expect results?
Good luck with your application !

Adriekk

Last year I was notified in late March by “snail” mail that I didn’t get in, however people got offers via email earlier March from HKU Master Econ programme.

I don’t know about HKUST and their process, since this is the first time I applied to them.

Keep me updated on how you go with your application and which programme you choose. Hopefully we get an offer from them all :)

I might quickly work up an application for CityU.

Hi Bear,

Then you should try HKUST/HKU MBA instead of MEcon imho which is more prestigious
HKU MEcon is not really academic (thus they also admit PT student) but suit your purpose

HKUST/CityUHK MEcon is academic and is the preparation for PhD Econ.

HKU do have a good general reputation in HK especially in medicine/bio science/law/statistics, however business school is not one of their strength

HKUST is good in business school

In HK CityUHK does not regard as elite school

Hi All

Was wondering if anyone here has heard anything from either of these unis about their Master of Econ applications.

Not yet! you ?? any idea when they will contact us?

Unfortunately I haven’t heard anything yet. I guess since it was recently Chinese new year, they may not process as many applications. I still haven’t submitted my CityU app, I probably should get on top of that.

Hello guys,I am new here.i applied for HKU and UST.HKU under fast track and UST under main round.when are we getting our results?

Hi Adriekk

Have you heard anything yet, I received an offer from cityU. I have two weeks to accept. But haven’t heard anything from HKU or HKUST

i applied to HKU and HKUST, haven’t heard from both :C getting a bit nervous right now

Hi

I’ve accepted my CityU offer for Masters of Applied Econ, curious to know if there are many other international students that will also be studying this programme in 2013.
