Hmm.. Interesting..

So, I was checking my application status online. I looked at the "Admission Documents Sent" (the part that tells what mailings CMU has sent to you) and it said they mailed me a teacher recommendation on January 2nd...? Why would CMU be mailing ME a teacher rec?
I thought it was supposed to be the other way around, haha. Or perhaps it is just a typo.

I haven't read it, but I believe "Admission Documents Sent" actually refers to the documents you sent them, not vice versa. So they probably received that letter of recommendation on 1/2/09, or you postmarked it by then.

I sitll haven't gotten my application status id. how long does that take? I submitted on the 1st.

I haven't got mine either...can someone reply as to how long it would take?

they did the same for me except with SAT reasoning test (Hell, I took the act!)
there are two different sections richan-
documents received and documents sent- the sent being what they send to the applicant...
oh well
haha

On my D's account under documents sent it says on January 2 they sent us an interview sheet. This doesn't really make sense either. Maybe the person doing the data entry on January 2nd put things in the wrong column or something went wrong with the computer program. I would just wait and see if it gets changed. The other items listed under documents sent are marketing-type materials.

I hope you're right. We got sent a "PreCollege Application Receipt" on January 2 according to the file. But we haven't actually received anything in the mail. And that was after the "Application Receipt Letter"....which we DID receive. Oh well...

To answer a few questions....

It takes a few weeks for you to get an application receipt with your ID number. You will get a letter confirming that you did submit an app and what they received at the same time as the app (not materials sent under a different header) as well as an ID number to log in to the system with. You will also get a course catalog CD.

The first section, 'documents received', is the date that each item was added to your file by them. This section will also have some status updates like 'Application Processed' (Your application is in your file), 'Folder Pulled Committee Read' (Your folder has been sent over to a specific school's committee for review by them - this status isn't always indicative that they're reading it right away and also doesn't always appear. There are some technical details about why that is that I don't remember at the moment - and 'Application Complete'. Things like 'Interview Sheet' (a sheet your admissions interviewer fills out if you took one) and 'Admission Score Report Form' will also appear on there, things that you obviously never submitted but that the CMU Admissions office has done. Think of this first section as basically a running inventory for what is currently in your admissions folder.

The second section, though, 'documents sent', is what they send to you. It is important to note that sometimes this date seems to be the date that they processed it to be sent to you, not necessarily the day that it entered the post system. It can take longer than you expect after it gets 'sent' for it to actually reach you.

For things like decision letters, though, the sent date always seems to be the date it enters the mail. + 2-4 business days after that you should receive it.

I was curious about 'Admission Score Report Form' thing, and you relieved me big time lol

thx for the awesome informations!

Happy New Year!

They mailed me one on January 2 too (the teacher rec)! I thought it was rather strange as well. I'll call the school on Monday to see what they meant by it.
