Ok, well initially I wrote an essay about how Darwin influenced me. However, I kinda heard from people that that was a bad topic for an essay because my focus was too "Darwin focused." So, now I am considering writing about my research at my local med center this summer. The thing is I only was doing research for about 4 months and will probably not compete at Siemens or Intel...so will it hurt me to write about this topic?

Essays should not be a vehicle for you to brag about your ostensible achievements. We want to know who you are, not nearly as much what you have done (which can be easily obtained/inferred from your ECs, recs, etc.). With that said, if Darwin’s influence or your research gives us a better picture of who you are as a person, go with it.

Thanks DSI. I guess what I am wandering though is that my research is probably not as indepth and accomplished as some others. It impacted me for sure…in fact is changed the way I look at biology. However, will the fact that my research is not as “prestigious and award winning” hurt me?
