I'm planning on applying to the Senate Page Program in Fall of 2015 (in the grand state of Texas under Sen. Cornyn if you may ask). I don't happen to have any personal connections with the Senator, although I have met him on a number of occasions as my dad is a local politician. I called his Central Texas Office a few months ago and ended up talking to his Page overseer in DC, so I have made a name connection there. She told me there are anywhere from 15 to 25 that apply each session, meaning a 4 - 7% admittance rate.

I get tired of people listing every last club they're a 'member' of, so I'll try to keep my resumé pithy:
4.0 GPA (UW), Student Council President, soon-to-be Eagle Scout, Debate Team, 12 yrs of Piano (performed at nearby university contests), Church Youth Group Leadership Team, 150 or so service hours

Now for the questions! I ask you, parents of former Senate Pages, former Senate Pages, experts on the topic, and the general community:
-What are my chances? ((Sorry it's quite a cliché question :)) )
-How much difference would it make if I volunteered in Sen. Cornyn's campaign? or somehow worked for him through a local level office
-Should I send in my app soon/early? due date is May 2015 I think (trying to plan ahead B-) )

Any other advice/comments/questions are welcome! Thanks a bunch and feel free to contact me through dm if so needed

I was a Senate Page two summers ago, and your resume looks good, but I don’t think any of us honestly know how they evaluate applicants. If you want to message me about the experience, I can give you details. I thought it was a great time.

It would probably help if you volunteered in the Senator’s campaign and then put that on the application - I’m a former Senate Page and I did the same.
I was a Senate Page this past semester (Fall 2014), and it was a great experience. Senator Cornyn usually gets Pages, so that shouldn’t be an issue (I’m actually really good friends with the Texas Page). It will help if you volunteer on his campaign but what you have right now is good. It’s hard to predict whether someone will get in or not because it’s up to the Page coordinator, but it’s good that you know her. Just try your best and keep in contact with the Page intern coordinator!
the page coordinator at my sponsoring senator’s offices always encourages you submit as early as possible. I would agree with the other former pages that none of us really know what goes into every decision. People get into the program for a wide variety of reasons!
Having a connection with the office is always good, no matter how… get someone to know your name!
@Venus7 Okay cool. He was just reelected to a six year term so I’m not sure if I will. What would you recommend doing specifically if I did happen to volunteer? And when/from where were you a Page? thanks
