Holy Cross VS Fordham

I've heard numerous times that Holy Cross and Fordham are practically the same. In the Boston area, Holy Cross is more well known; while in the NYC area, Fordham is.

I wanted to see what your opinions are. I know Holy Cross has a way better pre-med program but I want to know if their high tuition is really worth it.

thanks

Fordham is pricey too. It's around 50k for total costs per year I think

I'd go to Fordham.

From collegeboard.com:

For Holy Cross:

65% in top 10th of graduating class
97% in top quarter of graduating class
100% in top half of graduating class

For Fordham:

43% in top 10th of graduating class
78% in top quarter of graduating class
96% in top half of graduating class

Be wary of statistics. Also the premed program at Fordham is no cake walk, believe me. Holy Cross is an LAC and highly ranked. Fordham is a national university and rising rapidly in the rankings. Fordham is a larger university, and a research university. It also signed an agreement with Albert Einstein School of Medicine, Yeshiva University for joint programs and cross matriculation. Being next to the Bronx Zoo and New York Botanical Gardens, Fordham also has superb programs there as well.

But it comes down to personal observations and fit.

Both are very good schools, and while both are Jesuit - they are quite different. Fordham Rose Hill is twice the size of Holy Cross and has graduate students. Fordham, while having a traditional campus, is really a school for people who love the city - The city becomes very important and takes kids away from campus a lot. There is minimal athletic spirit - although the athletic history is long and storied.

Holy Cross is superior in an academic sense, smaller and 100% undergrad. Students stick to Campus and school spirit is very high. 25% of students are varsity athletes.

Both schools have strong name recognition, although each may be a bit stronger in their respective regions.

Leaving aside any academic distinctions, Holy Cross is located in the wholly uninspiring, grimy city of Worcester, Mass--well, okay, they do have a cool armor museum--far from the delights of Boston, and Fordham's Rose Hill campus is just outside Manhattan. I know where I'd rather go to school.
