Home School Acceptances, Class of 2013!

My D is in at UF (after a long wait)

Waiting to hear from New College of Florida.

Congratulations on the acceptances. It is so much fun to read these. Both New College and Columbia were schools we looked at. Son actually sent test scores to Columbia but decided not to apply.

He received mail from Columbia touting their large financial aid initiative (including a no-loan policy)and reassuring potential applicants that despite the decline in endowment value, the financial aid policies would remain in effect. They received a large gift not too long ago, and it will go toward financial aid.

Last year, Columbia’s most generous donor, John W. Kluge CC’37, pledged $400 million for financial aid, half of which is directed to undergraduates in Columbia College.

And it's such a great school!

I'm going to have such tough choices to make in April lol

Congrats on the acceptances!

Senior's Dad: Did you ever find out why they help up the UF decision? I hope the New College works out too. Our son is very interested in the school too.

Accepted
University of Florida (UF)
Baylor University - Plus acceptance into the Honors College and BIC programs. Merit $
University of Central Florida (UCF) - Accepted into The Nicholson School of Communication Public Relations Limited Access Program. I am still waiting to hear back from The Burnett Honors College. Merit $
University of South Florida (USF) Merit $

Waiting on ...
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC)
University of Maryland at College Park (UMD)
Florida State University (FSU)

Ok, here's my final list....

Accepted:
Florida State
University of Colorado
Colorado State(honors program)
Covenant College(basketball scholarship)
University of Minnesota

Rejected:
University of Florida

I guess 5/6 isn't too bad. Still, it sucked to get rejected by UF. With my stats, I should have gotten in.... like if you compared my stats, I had like an 85% chance. Oh well, lots of other (and some better) options.

DD received her "likely letter" via Early Evaluation at Wellesley! The other notifications won't arrive until end of March, so this is a huge relief. Now we can relax and see where else she gets in...

Update

Back when we started homeschooling, my in laws were worried about college. Now ds has likely letters from Duke, Rice, and has been admitted to UGA's Honors program - without any accreditation. We've come a long way, baby!

Congratulations to all of you; those are some pretty good colleges.

I got into Emory ED (my first choice) after being homeschooled since third grade, attending an alternative semester school and studying in Portugal for a year.
Turns out being different isn't such a bad thing.

DD has now been accepted to:

Swarthmore (by early write)
Wellesley (by early evaluation)

We're pretty happy around here : )

My son has been accepted as a Viola Performance major with merit scholarships at

University of Michigan
Southern Methodist University (SMU)
University of North Texas

We're waiting to hear from Rice University and he has one more audition: Colburn Conservatory in Los Angeles.

He's the first of our 3 so it is very exciting to see that homeschooling works and our homeschoolers CAN get accepted to major universities with scholarships!

How do you list it on your applications? For instance, in California, there is technically no such thing.

i was h/s from 6th grade and alternative ed/ cc for the rest with a special public high school program. i am 15.

i was accepted by UCLA to the school of Art and Architecture for fall 2009.

also by UCSB, and UW
woo hoo!!!!

You're 15? Geeze.... but congrats!

Is UW Washington or Wisconsin? Or Wyoming.... haha

My daughter went five for five:

Admitted at:

University of Florida Honors Program

New College of Florida

Eckerd College

Rollins College

St. Leo University

She immediately affixed her "There Is Only One New College of Florida -- The Honors College of Florida" bumper sticker to her car when she received her final acceptance today.

She's Sarasota-bound this fall.

Congratulations Senior's Dad and daughter! New College is a great choice and in the running for my son.

So far, he's been accepted to:

New College of Florida

University of Florida

Beloit College

Macalester College

Marquette University

The bump in the road came today with a waitlist letter from Carleton which had worked its way up to the number one spot on son's list. He is very disappointed. He's still waiting on a few more decisions, but with Carleton fading out of the picture, he seems to be favoring Beloit with New College and Macalester nosing into the lead at times. His matriculation decision will have money heavily factored in by us, the parents. Beloit has been very generous with merit scholarship so it's a real possibility in everyone's book for son and us, the parents.

Congratulations to everyone!

Since I last posted, my son received:

-a likely letter from Stanford;
-admission to Plan II (University of Texas honors) with an invitation to interview for a scholarship;
-admission to SMU honors and an interview for a full ride +.

Still waiting on a few --including Rice--- I'm on pins and needles here. I'm a little worried because my son's SAT IIs weren't in his proposed major, as Rice recommends.

Turnerhome -- were you guys at SMU for the scholarship interview day by any chance? I'd be interested in your thoughts on SMU.

Rice decisions have just been posted online -- my son was accepted!
