Honest help in schools

Hey guys,

It's my first time here and I have some questions about colleges.

I've taken two SATs already and I'm wondering, is there a way to find out whether a certain college looks at the highest overall score or the highest score from each subsection?

Also, with my scores...

CR: 720
Math:770
W: 670
Overall: 2160
I have quite a few ECs and other various activites.

What do you think are my chances of getting into Columbia, Stanford, Caltech, Carnegie Mellon, UPenn?

Would you suggest that I take the SAT again in the fall?

And what other schools do you suggest that I apply to?

Thanks for all your help!

What are you looking for (what type of school) in terms of fit?

I'm looking for a school with strong math/science programs, not too large, suburban or urban environment, the other stuff does not really matter as much to me.

help anybody?

I believe all colleges look at the highest score in each sub-section.

As to your chances...try posting your request in the Chances forum..you might get more response there.

The answer is "It depends". At my son's high school we were told 2300 on the SAT for Stanford and UPenn. But, it can be different at different high schools. Also, it depends on your grades and extra curricular activities. If you are the best in your state in something that counts for a lot. You never know unless you apply. Just have those safety schools ready.

Not true. Most colleges look at the highest score in each sub-section. Many, including most notably, the UC's, look only at the highest total score in one sitting. Check the websites of the colleges you want to apply to.

have you visited Carnegie Mellon? Math/science; Pittsburgh is neither too urban nor suburban (it is very nice!); check the website for exact stats but you look in the ballpark.
