Could I still get into NYU with a Gpa of 3.6 Freshman year without any honors? Sophomore year i plan on taking AP US history and honors Chemistry? I dont Qualify for any more Honors courses for Sofomore year. Did i kill my chances because i didnt take any honors courses freshman year? How many honors and AP classes should be taken in highschool to get into NYU.

Just do well on your SAT and SAT II’s (2200+ preferably) and raise your GPA…It’s only Freshman year… Just because you don’t have lots of AP courses won’t ruin you. Look at the stats of everybody in your school who got into NYU, then make your decision whether or not you “ruined” your chances.

I took zero honors/AP classes my freshman year and took 12 AP and 4 honors classes for the next three years. Got in. Try to balance it out with an upward trend.

There’s no minimum requirement of AP and honors classes, but rather, NYU takes into account the number AP classes offered at your school, and compares it to the number of AP classes you have taken/are taking. So if your school offers 20 APs, but you take only 5, that doesn’t look too good. But if you are taking 10+, that is looked more favorably upon. And a 3.6 freshman year won’t kill your chances, if you continue to excel, you can bring that GPA up. Also you don’t need a 2200+ on the SAT to get into NYU, anything north of 2000+ is fine. And don’t forget about ECs, those are important as well.

I took four AP Classes and I didn’t get in, but rather onto the waitlist. My friend who transferred to another school only took 1 AP during her entire high school career got in. We have similar stats besides the number of APs. (e.g. NHS, no sports, science oriented schedule, SAT scores - mine was higher though) So idk. It’s really confusing.

Yeah, an upward trend is very important… Freshman year is relatively unimportant to colleges when they look at your transcript. Just be sure to keep steadily improving!
If you’re aiming for Stern, you’ll probly need 2200+ but regular NYU you should be fine ~2100 maybe even less

I side with mandolova…it’s confusing who they will take. One event (even year) won’t make or break you. Admissions is random. Try your best, work hard, and have fun. You’ll get into NYU if you do those things. Not gonna lie though, different schools are obviously more competitive/less competitive to gain admission too.

I had a 3.53 GPA and a 1900 SAT with 5 AP and 7 Honors classes (so 12 total honors classes) and was accepted to the same program as a friend who had a 3.65 GPA and a 1900 SAT and NO honors or AP classes. It’s a crap shoot.

I have a 3.5 gpa for high school
4 ap classes
5 honors classes
2080 sat
Do I have chance at NYU
