Honors Classes S118 & K204

My son will be a Kelly DA and a Hutton Student this fall. I need advice on whether or not he should take both the Finite Math Honors S118 and the Computer Class K204 as Honors or is it better to take one of both of these as a regular class M118 and K201? Can you take two honors classes a semester?
BTW he also would like to take the honors Energy & Gas prices H205, is this too much Honors, will they let him?

I'd take K204, its basically K201, but you learn it a little faster and theres a project at the end, plus k204 grades easier. I would recommend going for the M118 simply because I know people in S118 who said the course was tedious a nd sometimes timeconsuming. I'm not familiar with the H205 class, but I'd say go for it, sounds like an interesting class with all the current uproar over energy and gas prices.

Without a doubt I'd say to enlist in all the honors courses you can. Non-honors sections for just about any class have an average GPA anywhere from 2.0-3.0 while honors classes almost always have average section GPAs of at least 3.3. For instance, the two sections of H205 taught in Spring 2008 in have an average GPA of 3.431. Overall I think that honors courses will make your son's academic year very enjoyable - the benefits are countless.

I don't know if there's a limitation on the number of honors courses one can take in a single semester but you can probably call the Hutton Honors College and find out.

What I found about Honors courses is that while there's more points to go around, there's more work associated with those courses. Basically, Honors courses are effort courses. They'll give you more points for doing more work, and in turn it boosts your grade.

For K204, you are rushed through the class and do many things that K201 doesn't touch. It is a difficult class but I liked it since I find that many IU classes don't give enough work, or enough challenging work and that wasn't lacking in K204. You have lots of EC points throughout the course that I don't think K201 gets, and you don't have a Friday class (the best part!)

Thanks to all of you for the help, it has been most helpful.

Yes. I agree with what people here have said.
If your son is a hardworker then honors classes are for him, as there will be more work but always alot of extra points so that the tests arn't worth as much. It's true the honors classes have higher Avg. Class GPAs, but we must take in consideration that the people who take honors classes are all hardworking Top-notch students, so the average gpa is skewed.
I was pledging a fraternity when I took k204 so it was very tough for me to keep up with that class. The only reason why I got an A in the course is because I got 98% and 100% on the tests, the HW points actually pulled my grade down substantially.
If your son is a natural learner who doesn't like to do alot of HW and is a talented test taker, normal classes are actually better for his GPA.
